American-style Pancakes

  • 200g self-raising flour 
  • 25g sugar 
  • 2 tsp golden syrup 
  • egg 
  • 250ml milk 


  1. Measure the flour, sugar and golden syrup into the batter dispenser or a lidded jar then add the egg and milk. Shake vigorously for a few minutes until you have a smooth batter. Alternatively, place the flour, sugar and syrup in a large jug, add the egg and then gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to create a smooth batter.
  2. Place a non-stick frying pan or flat griddle on your barbecue and heat until a drop of water shoots across the surface.
  3. Place small amounts of batter mix onto the griddle in 4cm circles, leaving a 1cm gap between each. Turn the pancakes over when the surface is completely covered with bubbles and cook the other side for about a minute.
  4. Serve with honey, fresh berries and natural yoghurt.
