The cake just doesn't cook in the middle when it does sides are dried out 1hour 20min @160 still wasn't fully cooked in the middle 2 cakes binned now such a waster of ingredients.
Thanks for your review. We’re sorry to hear of your disappointment. We’d advise to use a 6 egg mix and have recipes on our website you may wish to try.
I wish I had read the reviews but as a proficient baker I just cracked on. However I couldn’t get the middle to cook, the cake was in for an hour and I’d put cardboard ring on top after 30 minutes. In the end having made 3 cakes I scooped the middles of uncooked cake out, filled with a jar of sprinkles and cooked cake from the third. The ‘bomb’ does look good, complete with mini sparklers and I have the outcome I wanted. I need to persevere and cook for much longer slightly lower as it’s very effective shape. For first time users give yourself a long time to cook it!
I followed advice of other reviewers and lined this tin with strips of greaseproof paper and ensured it was thoroughly greased. I baked the cake for an hour at a slightly lower temperature than advised in the Lakeland recipe and the cake cooked evenly and came out clean.
I’ve had this tin for some time now and have used it so many times to bake cakes for family members, dragons, dinosaurs, cartoon characters, Rudolph, too many to mention, each time the cake pops out easily and is perfectly rounded , great buy. I use the recipe for the ladybird on the Lakeland blog- six eggs; takes longer than the recipe suggests in my oven though
I brought this to make my son a death star themed birthday cake - it is NOT nonstick I followed all the instructions and was left with a broken mess.
This is made from a silver anodised material which needs to be greased. However, as with all silver anodised products the more you use it the better it becomes and eventually a natural non-stick patina will build up on the pan.
