"Battenberg perfection" star star star star star Have now made two cakes using recipe supplied and both times excellent results. Friends impressed asking how I managed to get all equal pieces of sponge. A good investment.
"Great tin." star star star star star If you love b-berg but have never managed to nail it using loaf tins, this is the answer. The review from Ms Deacon says the recipe is bad. It's a classic Victoria Sponge recipe (6/6/6/3) which requires a bit of skill. If you don't have the know-how, an all-in-1 sponge using margarine will be more foolproof. The reason it's too much mixture is so you can cut it off to a completely flat finish. She's right that the resulting cake is larger than the piddly little pre-packaged ones from the supermarket, but surely that's a good thing? There is no such thing as a "standard" battenberg cake size! :)
"Silverwood Battenberg Tin" star star star star star Versatile and durable, the Silverwood Battenberg Tin is easy to use and the perfect size to create a very delicious and satisfying family favourite cake. I highly recommend this particular brand stocked by Lakeland. Jag
"How did I manage without it?!!" star star star star star We all love Battenburg cake -this tin is perfect and so easy to use. I greased the floured the two ends, then used baking parchment to line the rest all in one piece (8" x 18"). Tip - use disposable piping bags to fill the tin - is saves a lot of time and mess! Wonderful result first time! A classic Battenburg has almond flavoured sponge so I used almond extract instead of vanilla support_agent A note from the team Thank you for placing your review. We're pleased how happy you are with this product. Your tips are great and will be invaluable to others - thanks for sharing these.
"It's a BIG cake!" star star star star star_border When I saw this in the shop I thought it was a bit small, but it's a tardis and surprisingly big when it's assemble! It's a shame this tin won't go in the dishwasher (only reason for not giving 5 stars) but Silverwood is good quality bakeware so if it's anything like my other Silverwood tins it will last for years if look after it. Making the cake is a bit of a fiddle but looks v good. I put rec amount of pink food colour in half of mix to get the checkerboard effect, but need loads more next time as little contrast colour.
