And while that’s not much of a problem if you’ve only got a few spuds to work your way through, it’s a time-eating hassle if you need mounds of mash to top a batch of shepherd’s pies, or a family-feeding portion of fries. Step up the Lakeland Potato Rumbler, a potato peeling machine which does the same job as your hand and your peeler, but takes just a fraction of the time and effort.

A boon to batch-cookers – and anyone else who just can’t face peeling heaps of potatoes, especially when there’s a machine that’ll do the job for them – our scaled-down rumbler works in just the same way as the larger ones found in commercial kitchens. And we’ve had lots of requests for one, so we know it’s not just us that wants a little help with the spuds!

Easy to use

Peeling potatoes by hand takes skill. This doesn’t! Just pop in your unpeeled potatoes, add a little water, secure the lid using the two strong clips and turn it on – there’s just a simple ON/OFF switch on the base. It’ll start rapidly spinning your spuds round, while all the little ‘teeth’ in the stainless steel graters in the base act to quickly remove all the skin as the spuds come into contact with them. In just a minute, it’ll have a 1kg load of potatoes peeled and ready (after a quick rinse, but you can take the bowl to the sink for that) for whatever comes next.

Granted, it’s not the quietest way to get pots prepped, but it’s so incredibly convenient. And weirdly compelling to watch!
