Black garlic doesn’t happen overnight. It takes around 40 days to produce the sweetly sticky, date-like results that end up in each jar. White garlic bulbs are expertly heat-aged over a period of weeks to break down the enzymes that give fresh garlic its sharpness, changing its colour, taste and texture, to create a slightly balsamic, sweet flavour sensation that will become your go-to accompaniment for so many dishes.

It’s perfect with a pork pie, a champion with cheese (we’ve even topped a cheese scone with it), and cold meats will be forever grateful. A spoonful in a casserole or a chilli is a revelation, and it will even add a tasty tang to beef rendang and other Asian dishes.

Handmade for us in the Lake District, using only natural ingredients including dates, onions, tomatoes, turmeric and balsamic vinegar, it’s gluten-free, suitable for vegetarians and vegans and contains no artificial flavourings.
