Do you relish a good condiment? This award-winning Black Garlic Ketchup is the first of its kind in the UK and a must for any condiment connoisseur.

Great for dipping and adding an instant zing to your dishes, it’s also a delicious accompaniment to red meat and chicken, and makes an excellent marinade. Alternatively, add depth to the flavour of your casseroles, risottos and sauces by adding a dollop of the black stuff.

What is black garlic?

Black garlic is in fact white garlic that has been through a long heating process, resulting in a chemical reaction that changes its taste, colour and texture.

Creating taste perfection

Dedicated to creating the best tastes from the best ingredients, the garlic is slow roasted for 40 days to extract its full flavour potential, transforming it into ‘black garlic’. The expert chefs at Hawkshead Relish then crush the cloves and combine with fresh tomatoes, olive oil & balsamic vinegar, spices and Anglesey Sea Salt to create a beautifully rich and sweet sauce for you to enjoy.

Award-winning innovation

While visiting Japan, Maria Whitehead (director of Hawkshead Relish) had her first taste of black garlic and loved its sweet, unique taste. On returning to the UK, and surprised the ingredient wasn’t already used in British recipes, Maria set about creating the first Black Garlic Ketchup – and we are grateful she did as it’s truly delicious! Don’t just take our word for it, this delectable ketchup has rightfully won the World Food Innovation Award and Best New Product at the Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards.

About the Hawkshead Relish Company

Speciality producers of award-winning preserves handmade in the English Lake District – they started as café owners and discovered that customers wanted to be able to take a jar of their delicious home-made condiments home, as a souvenir of a memorable meal in Hawkshead. Having started in 2001 with three products, they now offer well over 100 and are always inventing more… production has moved to a 16th century barn just outside the village while the original premises is now a shop where you can taste their wares before buying.

"too much sugar, not nice"

I tried this but the taste was terribly sweet, I did not finish that initial portion and tipped the rest down the sink. I just looked at the list of ingredients, it contains only 16% garlic and the biggest ingredient is brown sugar

Absolutely scrumptious and I'm just gutted I didn't find it sooner! Fabulous with steak (goes well with a lot of meats), fish and the best thing I've ever dipped a chip into! Zings up a salad, makes veggies come to life and is used almost daily. Delicious and suitable for the vegetarians, vegans and coeliacs in my family.

I was not sure about this but went off the reviews. I am so glad I got it, one of the best relishes/sauce out today & so versatile. It goes with many dishes, I will soon be ordering more what a fabulous flavour. Well done Hawkshead & Lakeland for selling it on your site. If I could give it a 6 star I would do.

I bought a jar of this as a present to myself, and am so glad I did! A couple of dollops transformed a vegetable soup I made - healthy, but somewhat bland and anaemic- into something really special.
