Lakeland Adjustable Food Dehydrator

Product number: 31793

Rather than heading for the vending machine or making a beeline for the biscuit barrel, have you ever thought about making your own dehydrated snacks? With our Adjustable Food Dehydrator you can easily do this. As well as being delicious, these home-made snacks work out much cheaper than shop-bought and there’s no end to the options you can try…

Why Dehydrate?

Dehydrated food has a much longer shelf life than fresh food – and takes up less room in your cupboards too. And because dehydrating only removes water, it preserves and concentrates flavours and aromas, so you get to keep all the deliciousness. It’s an ideal way to make your own healthy snacks, or to create a stock of tasty store cupboard ingredients that can be sprinkled into soups, sauces, casseroles and risottos to add a dash of flavour.

Healthier Snacks

Unlike many shop-bought snacks, which often have added sugar, additives or salt, you’ll know exactly what’s gone into any dried ones you make yourself. They’re so much better for you than a packet of crisps, and just think how easy your 5-a-day will be.

What Foods Are Suitable?

Dehydrated food isn’t just about banana chips and raisins – you can make delicious dried snacks out of pretty much any fruit or vegetable. Think sun-dried tomatoes, carrot and parsnip crisps, dried peppers, mushrooms or kale. Make the most of garden gluts and dry apples and pears in autumn or berries and cherries in summer – perfect for using all year round in marmalades, jams and salsas. Make candied peel, dry out herbs… at its highest temperature setting, this dehydrator even dries out thin cuts of meat to create home-made jerky.

How to Dehydrate

Simply slice your chosen food and arrange it on one of the four height-adjustable trays, then use the simple-to-use control panel to select the right temperature setting for whatever you’re dehydrating and set the timer.

Gentle heat from the base flows evenly over, under and around your food, slowly drying it out without cooking it and leaving all the nutrients and flavour intact, so none of the ‘good stuff’ is lost.

The Technical Bits

  • 4 food-drying trays, height-adjustable from 20-36mm
  • 12-hour timer – set the temperature and make a batch overnight
  • Four heat settings for different foods – 38C, 48C, 58C and 68C

The food dehydrator includes drying times and temperature guide.

It’s the first time I’ve used one of these, and I’m very pleased with the results. I’ve done cherry tomatoes and pears so far.

"Super versatile; think outside the box"

About 30 years ago I had one of the first dehydrators that came from NZ. I've used it for so many things. Its not just good for dehydrating fruit/veg, but take a fruit puree with little liquid, sieve to get rid of any pips spread out and make the most delicious fruit strips, kids love them. Apricot flavour are delicious. When my son did his gold D of E expedition, I made some chilli & a stew I dehydrated them, put into a vacuum sealed bag and all he had to do was add water and heat. Be adventurous, dehydrate anything. I'm consequently not still using the same machine from 30 plus years ago!!

I used the dehydrator to dry orange and apple slices for Christmas decorations. It was very successful and the dehydrator was simple to use. It was also useful in drying out herbs and chillies left over after cooking.
