Lakeland 2-Portion Freeze Pod

This 2 person freeze pod looks to be well made and quite sturdy although not personally suitable for our needs. The portion sizes are too big for us as we both suffer with type 2 diabetes and do not usually eat the same meal. I also feel they would take up much more room in the freezer than the foil cartons we currently use. A single pod of a smaller size would suit us better.

I have tried this freeze pod out thinking it seemed like a really useful size and good idea, but in reality it doesn't quite work for our family. It's a great idea to save on single use plastic used when freezing batch cooking but I think a 500ml portion size and single pods might be more useful. The small but important consideration for our freezer space being that if you only use one item of the two frozen in this pod, you are left with lost freezer space to an empty half pod. Possibly would work well for a single person and it is very well made with a neat fitting see through cover.

I used the 2 pod today. I cooked a cottage pie yesterday and had a portion left over. I put the left over meat in one pod and the mash in the other pod. Popped the top on and placed it in the fridge. Today I placed the pods in the microwave for reheat setting, I wasn’t shore of Time so cooked first for 5 minutes , stirred and popped back in for 4 minutes . Ate it from the pods so not much washing up and a hearty meal done . Better than shop ready meal.

Nothing to do with the product but have been unwell recently. As someone with allergies this saver has allowed me to freeze and reheat the food I have left with ease. I often have to bin leftovers or plan ahead to reheat so I can defrost, put in microwave safe dish and reheat. This is so easy and saves on washing up and space as not needing separate freezing and reheating dishes. The ability to have two separate dishes in one is great. I have used for vegetables and potatoes alongside my meat portions. Also used for meatballs and sauces. Also used for separate sauces .

I have been keen to use silicone cubes for freezing for a while. These ones I found in Lakeland are fabulous & a really attractive price. Great sizing & even better for popping out blocks to wrap & stack in the freezer. The larger ones are perfect for individual lasagnes, cottage pies etc. smaller ones are perfect for portions of rice, mash, beans and any other side you want to freeze. I absolutely love them. I would really like to ask Lakeland’s buying team to consider stocking glass or ceramic dishes, in which the cubes would fit, to pop in the oven.
