The Kilner Butter Crock is the easy way to keep butter at a perfect, spreadable consistency, without having to take up room in your fridge. Not only that, but it also helps to preserve the taste of your butter thanks to the airtight seal created by the water.
How it works
The butter crock is made up of two parts: the base and the lid. To keep your butter fresh, pour a little water into the bottom of the base and then fill the bell-shaped lid with butter, before lowering the lid, butter faced down. The water creates an airtight seal to keep the butter fresh and preserve its taste and consistency for the perfect spread every time.
Despite modern refrigeration, butter crocks are still popular today for their ability to keep butter at a perfect spreading consistency without refrigeration.
And when it comes time to give it a clean, simply pop it in the dishwasher for a nice easy clean, ready to fill with butter again.

"Soft spreadable butter"

The butter crock is nice and heavy glass with flutes down the sides and feels weighty. The only thing I found awkward was having to try and get the butter in to the top. A block of butter does not fit, so you have to cut block to fit and it holds around half a block of butter. Might be better with a round stick of butter. I'm sure it will get easier with practice. When I was making breakfast it was nice to have soft spreadable butter. No more scraping the block for a sliver of butter. I guess the water seal keeps it airtight and fresh

This crock is made by kilner so as expected is well made with 780g glass...heavier than I expected. It's dish washer proof The fluted inner chamber holds 178g of butter... not a whole pack, which was disappointing. It could have been a little wider and not as deep for ease of use The butter stayed a light buttery colour (butter usually darkens outside the fridge). and spreadable whilst using it. I kept it on the kitchen table and changed the water every second day. It's a nostalgic item that would look great alongside cheese and biscuits or a ploughman's with homemade chutney.
