Lakeland End Grain Oak Chopping Board 40cm

Product number: 27361

Perfect for everyday chopping, slicing, and dicing, the Lakeland End Grain Oak Chopping Board is an excellently versatile kitchen tool. Whether your kitchen is contemporary or traditional, a natural wooden chopping board suits all styles. It's 100% food grade and ideal for all types of food preparation, but the feature that makes this chopping board stand out is that it's made from end grain oak.

What is end grain oak?

This is the cut section of oak wood where the grain is exposed at the ends of the boards, as opposed to the more common face or edge grain, where the wood fibres are visible along the surface.

A beautiful natural pattern that suits any kitchen countertop

End grain has a distinct appearance, showcasing the growth rings of the tree in a series of circles. This means the patterns and lines are unique to each piece of wood, so if you're looking for a chopping board that doubles up as a gorgeous feature to the kitchen countertop, this ticks the box.

Impressively hard‐wearing and durable chopping board

End grain oak is known for its durability and the fibres absorb impact and pressure well, offering excellent longevity and durability. There's no need to worry about the natural wear and tear that comes with everyday use.

"Built to outlast you, your children and your grandchildren"

star star star star star

Weighing in at just under 3 kg this cutting board may not be for you if you have severe arthritis in your wrists: it's an absolute brick. Otherwise it's an excellent investment: solid end-grain all the way through (not just an end-grain veneer like some others). Serrated-edged blades will scratch the surface but straight-edged blades seem not to. It looks like it's been made to last your whole culinary life, and then some. I'm unreservedly pleased with this purchase, which is a rare thing these days. Tip: before first use, dress the surface with oil, and rinse immediately after use.

"Substantial chopping board"

Lovely heavy and thick board, copes well with bread knife (no marks left) and other side was perfect for roast as juices kept in channel. Washes well.

"Lovely, heavy duty board but arrives unfinished"

star star star star star_border

This is a lovely, heavy duty board and looks great on my countertop. However, the first time it got wet, this caused the grain to raise up so that the board was covered in lots of tiny splinters. I don't know why these boards aren't already properly finished off, it's not the first wooden board I've bought that this has happened to and I had to sand it myself (and then oil it). Perhaps it needs to come with instructions on sanding it if this happens after first wash (it might also prevent a few returns).

support_agent A note from the team

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear of your experience. We'd advise not to soak the chopping board as this can cause the wood to warp and raise. The less time in the water the better for wooden boards and then oiling from time to time also helps.
