Lakeland Jelly Strainer

I don't know what's harder to assemble; this item of an old-fashioned deckchair! You just get one joint in place and another pops out again. Very frustrating. The secret is to press hard on the joint but fear it won't last long. The price is steep for 3 pieces of plastic and a jelly bag. Not the best buy from Lakeland that I've ever made.

The jelly bag is quite useful as it washes easily, unlike the cloth bag, I have used previously. but I am not sure it would accommodate 2kg of fruit. However the stand is flimsy, and I can't seem to find a way of adjusting it to stick a decent sized bowl under it. The plastic lugs won't last long, in my humble opinion, as they don't clip together very well. All in all, I can see myself going back to the upturned stool or dangling my old jelly back from a wheeled clothes rail.

At first use you think it is clumsy because of the bulk - but we have used the same two for years and they are brilliant. They do not collapse under the weight of the fruit you are straining, the bags are easily removed, the bags also have stood the test of time. We needed a third for our household to accommodate more production. Bravo!

My old fashioned jelly bag gave up the ghost after many many years of service. I was concerned over the fact that the bag was nylon and wouldn't give me a clear liquid. I am very pleased with the result. The bag took a full 6 lb of apples after boiling in 3 pints of water. The stand is sturdy and held the bag full of pulp. It was a bit fiddly putting the stand together but I will master it next time. Apple Jelly made the next day and it's nice and clear. The bag stayed nice and white after washing. Definitely worth the little bit of extra money, compared with others on the market. 5 stars !!

We bought two of these jelly strainers a few years ago when they were reduced in price. You might think they look flimsy, but they fit together well and, just this week, I have successfully strained almost 3 kg of redcurrants through the bag.The red plastic device clips together in three parts. It folds up flat-ish and we pop on top of our kitchen cupboard out of the way until next use. We use a mid sized glass pyrex dish to catch the juice and it works just as per Lakeland pics. My husband affixes a large, thick rubber band to give extra holding power to the bag. It's great.
