Outdoor, Portable & Multi-Fuel Pizza Ovens

There’s nothing quite so tasty as a meal that you’ve cooked in the great outdoors. We’re talking pizzas with a bit of pizzazz, and casseroles cooked and served outside your casa. At Lakeland our range of portable outdoor ovens and outdoor wood pizza ovens is always growing as we can’t resist the clever ideas that come from our favourite manufacturers like Cobb and Ooni.

Ready for a pizza the action

The Italians have really been onto something for a long while now. Not only is pizza delicious – we know, we love it too – but it really is the ultimate in fast food. Originating in Naples as a fast food staple, pizza cooked in a wood oven can be ready in as little as 60 seconds. Now that is fast!

So, there’s no need to tangle with an indoor oven that just can’t reach the heats needed for that wood fired taste. Our outdoor pizza oven can hit temperatures of 500°C and cook your pizza in one minute flat.

All you need to do is get your dough ready, swish on the tomato sauce with a little style, sprinkle that mozzarella and decide on your toppings. Then crank the oven up and in 60 seconds you’re good to go. Just maybe let it cool first, as that mozzarella is going to be hot hot hot – if you’re feeling the heat, don’t forget to pick up some pizza oven gloves for that extra bit of safety from our pizza oven accessories.

Oh, and did we mention you can assemble the oven in just 15 minutes? Plenty of our portable outdoor ovens come with a handy carry case too, so you can impress your friends at home and away.

Al fresco everyday

You can make any outdoor space in your garden into your perfect little outdoor kitchen. A few chairs and an outdoor table are all you need to build your own pizza palace in your back garden.

Our portable outdoor ovens and outdoor pizza ovens take up very little space and can be assembled quickly and taken down after use. Just pop it up and pop the pizza in whenever you’re feeling peckish. And you definitely don’t need planning permission to build a pizza oven in your garden – it really isn’t the Leaning Tower of Pisa after all.

Do you need wood for an outdoor pizza oven?

This depends on the type of oven you choose. At Lakeland you’ll find we sell a range of different outdoor ovens. Some of our wood pizza ovens are exactly that, wood – you’ll need wood pellets to get them going. You’ll also find multi-fuel pizza ovens that use either wood, charcoal or gas, or just simple gas fired ovens. Really the choice is yours.

Are pizza ovens worth it?

Our customers certainly think so! But, of course, it all depends on whether you’re serious about your pizza. If you’re perfectly happy with shop-bought frozen pizzas, then a pizza oven probably isn’t an investment you’re likely to want to make. However, if you’re potty about proper, authentic pizza made from wood-fire ovens, would couldn’t recommend a domestic pizza oven highly enough.

Choosing between wood-fired, gas and electric pizza ovens

When using a wood-fired pizza oven, you get that natural smoky ‘campfire’ flavour synonymous with authentic Italian pizzas. You also have the option of altering the flavour given off by using different types of wood.

The main benefit of a gas pizza oven is convenience – there’s less mess to clean up afterwards, and less effort required to light the fire compared to wood-fired ovens. You simply need to attach the gas burner to a gas bottle and you’re off (they tend to heat up a little bit quicker than wood-fired too).

The interesting thing about electric pizza ovens is that they are safe to use indoors. This can be a huge pull for some people, as it means you can cook pizzas all year around, whatever the weather, at temperatures up to 450°C. The downside, however, is, no matter how hot your electric pizza oven, it will always lack that flame-cooked authenticity that comes with cooking in a gas or wood-fired pizza oven.

There are benefits to all three, but which one you should go for depends on your budget, space and pizza preference. For example, if you’re after a trusty, affordable gas-powered pizza oven, then the Lakeland Gas Pizza Oven is a sound option. Able to reach 500°C in just 15 minutes to make 12” authentic Italian pizzas, this portable pizza oven with folding legs is all you need. (We’d recommend pairing it with the Lakeland Gas Pizza Oven Cover to protect it and keep it in tip-top condition for as long as possible.)

If you’re looking to spend a little more on an outdoor oven, complete with all the bells and whistles, our selection of premium pizza ovens is sure to impress your guests. From Everdure’s Kiln 2 Dual Burner with a battery-powered rotating pizza stone, to Witt Rotante’s Gas Powered Pizza Oven with a U-shaped burner and rotating stone for even cooking, a premium pizza oven will be front and centre of any pizza party. Then there’s the Ooni Karu 16 Multi-Fuel Outdoor Pizza Oven, which cooks using gas or wood (depending on your preference) and has a built-in thermometer and clear glass window for full flame control.

How do outdoor pizza ovens work?

Wood-fired pizza ovens work by burning wood pellets to create a furnace. Air enters the oven (usually through the front), and is sucked in towards the fire, heating up the internal mass of the oven, cooking the pizza in the process. Outdoor cooking using a pizza oven is the best way to achieve that authentic wood-fired taste we’ve all come to adore in Italian restaurants. Browse through all of our outdoor living essentials.

How long do pizza ovens take to heat up?

Pizza ovens vary in the time it takes to reach their top temperature, but as a rule of thumb, most take around 15 minutes. (Which, considering most domestic ovens take the same amount of time to reach 200°C, a pizza oven reaching 450-500°C in 15 minutes isn’t bad at all.) Once your pizza oven is piping hot, it can take as little as 60 seconds to cook your pizza in some pizza ovens!

Lakeland Pizza oven accessories

There are so many different accessories to choose from when it comes to getting the most out of your pizza oven. Take the Lakeland Pizza Rocker Cutter, for example, to help you cut your pizza like a pro in one slick movement. Then there are our selection of pizza peels, including our Lakeland Pizza Peel, or our Perforated Pizza Peel to increase airflow when lifting your pizza out of the oven. If you want to take control of your temperature before you cook, the Lakeland Infrared Thermometer will help you measure temperatures up to 500°C to achieve the best results possible. And if you’re looking for somewhere to store all your ingredients in one place, the Lakeland Lidded Pizza Topping Station has got your ingredients well and truly covered. Head to our website to check out all of our barbecues, pizza ovens and useful pizza oven accessories.

An outdoor oven isn’t just for summer

It can be for Christmas too! Yes, outdoor eating is always fun when the summer rolls around, but with an outdoor oven or outdoor wood pizza oven, there’s always an excuse for cooking and dining outside.

Outdoor ovens work just as well in the cold as they do in the warmth, which is great news. You just might need a few more layers, gloves, mittens and hats. But the pizza will definitely keep you warm.

Whether you want a lightweight ‘stove’ that allows you to get further from your car before cooking, or a portable wood pizza oven that you can choose to use in your own garden or take on holiday with you, you’re sure to find the right one at Lakeland.
