St Patrick’s Day
Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a religious and cultural holiday held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. The holiday has evolved into a celebration of Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing and drinking. Celebrate with us and enjoy some our great Irish recipes!
St Patrick’s Day Recipes
Beef and Ale Stew with Horseradish Spiral Dumplings
Hearty and warming, this Beef and Ale Stew is such a great dish to serve a crowd. Virtually a meal in itself, it needs just a green vegetable to go with it. When cut, the dumpling mixture forms lovely spiral shapes in cross section that make this classic dish just that little bit different.
Irish Boxty
A traditional Irish staple and super easy to make, we are big fans of the boxty. All you need to do is toss grated raw potato with some flour and then stir in some leftover mash potatoes. Add an egg and some milk to combine it all together and season with salt and pepper. Fry the patties in a frying pan until golden brown.
Green Cupcakes
Everything green…bake some classic vanilla cupcakes but add some ProGel Green Food Colouring into your batter to make them vibrant green in colour. Then, pour your batter into our Decora Green Cupcake Cups to make them even more green. Finally, finish off with some green icing and some green four leaf clovers made using fondant and voilà your cakes are fit for any St Patrick’s Day celebrations.
Cheddar & Potato Soup with Bacon
A twist on the classic Irish potato soup, and it’s perfect for a rainy weekend. Get the recipe here.
Guinness Pancakes
If you’re 18+ why not give your pancakes a festive flavour by swapping out milk for Guinness? Create a pancake batter as normal but half your quantity of milk and make it up with Guinness. If you really want to go all out add some ProGel Green Food Colouring into your batter too!
Irish Potato Bread
Start by preheating your oven to 190 Celsius. Place 150g of mashed potatoes and 150g of raw grated potatoes in a large mixing bowl, mix together until well combined. Add one full egg, one egg white, 80ml of vegetable oil and 80ml of milk and whisk until completely incorporated. In another bowl mix 2tbs of chives, 350g of plain flour, 10g whole wheat flour, 1 1/2 tbs baking power and a pinch of salt. Next, combine both bowls together and mix until it forms a dough. On a lightly floured surface knead your dough then place into a circular tin and score the top with a knife. Bake for 45 minutes and allow to cool before enjoying.
