King’s Coronation Celebrations

Coronation celebrations

They say that May is a month of pink and green, but this year it’s red, white and blue too! Excitement is building for the Coronation of our new King, on Saturday May 6th. We can’t wait to see your regal celebrations get underway.

Whether you’re thinking of throwing a small gathering for the family or a bigger bash with your friends and neighbours, there are tons of ways to make it a day to remember.

Transform any place into a palace

Roll out the royal bunting and lay down some jazzy tableware – your celebrations need to look the part. We’ve got Coronation napkins, Union Jack cake decorations and princely party cups to brighten any table.

Or if you don’t want to stick to patriotic colours, then go fancy with gold. Pick up some gold cupcake cases and create a golden glow with strings of LED fairy lights.

So, go classy, camp or dial it all the way up to kitsch! Give your Coronation party a festive feel that will shine all Bank Holiday weekend.

A feast fit for a King

The crowning glory of any party is surely the food! Do your country proud and pile your tables and plates high.

Did you know that some of King Charles’ favourite foods are the humble egg and a plate of cheese and biscuits. With that in mind, the Coronation is a great excuse to lay out a spread of cheese and crackers – simple and sophisticated. Especially when presented on one of our elegant cheese boards.

Give a nod to the King’s other love with homemade scotch eggs, sandwich fillings and rich royal quiches. Check out our egg recipe page for more fun and tasty ideas.

Of course, eggs are also essential to many cake and pudding recipes! Make sure you get some sweet options lined up too. Whatever you bake, make sure you give it the royal treatment with worthy cake decorations. From gold candles to edible glitter, your creations will shine.

Coronation cakes

The official recipes for the event have been announced. For anyone with a sweet tooth, the royal recommendation is a recipe for strawberry and ginger trifle – sounds zingy!

If you think your guests will want something a little different, here’s a recipe for strawberry shortbread towers. This combines the King’s fondness for fresh fruits with his love of Scottish shortbread. We think he’d approve of this one.

Recipe for Strawberry Shortbread Towers

Ingredients:

  • Make your own buttery shortbread by following our recipe, or use a shop bought favourite – choose round biscuits.
  • 2 punnets of fresh strawberries
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar
  • Squeeze of lemon juice
  • 300ml double cream
  • Vanilla extract
  • Icing sugar

Method:

Step 1 – Pour the double cream into a bowl with a few drops of vanilla extract. Whip until stiff peaks start to form. Transfer the bowl to the fridge.

Step 2 – Chop half the strawberries into thin slices from bottom to top.

Step 3 – Blitz the other half of the strawberries in a food processer with the lemon and sugar. Sieve the purée to catch the seeds.

Step 4 – Carefully marble this purée through the cream. Spoon out a dollop of your mixture into the middle of your shortbreads, keeping half the biscuits aside.

Step 5 – Finally, arrange the strawberry slices around the cream filling – as if the strawberries are holding the filling in. Then top this off with another shortcake biscuit and the tower is formed!

Dust with icing sugar and enjoy. These treats are perfect with tea or prosecco.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your cake stand, unfurl your fairy lights and let the ceremony begin!
