Easter Burrowing Bunnies Chocolate Melts

Fancy having a go at making your own Easter gifts this year? For a cute alternative to Easter eggs, you can’t go wrong with these adorable burrowing bunnies made using our Geometric Heart Mould. You can either gift them as simple bunny-themed chocolates, marshmallow-filled hot chocolate bombes, or fill them with sweets or little eggs for a more traditional Easter gift. Whatever you go for, the lucky recipient is sure to love them.

Step 1 – create the chocolate shell

Place a heat-resistant bowl over a pan of hot water, and melt some good quality chocolate or candy melts, stirring to make sure the mixture is smooth and evenly melted. For our bunnies we used white chocolate.

Using a silicone pastry brush, brush an even layer of chocolate onto each of the holes in our geometric heart silicone mould, and pop into the fridge to set. Once the chocolate has hardened, carefully turn the heart halves out of the mould.

Step 2 – add fillings

To make a hot chocolate bombe, you’ll need to add a good spoonful of your favourite hot chocolate. How much you add is up to you, but we recommend Charbonnel et Walker Drinking Chocolate for a little bit of luxury. One of the best things about chocolate bombes is when the shell melts and mini marshmallows pop to the top, so don’t forget to add them too!

To join the hearts together, carefully dip the rim of an empty chocolate half shell into a little melted chocolate, pop it on top of a filled one, then leave to set.

Step 3 – transform into bunnies

In just a few simple steps, your simple chocolate hearts will be transformed into cute burrowing bunnies. Using edible glue or a blob or royal icing, stick on a white mini chocolate egg on the point of the heart for the tail, and add some bunny paw prints on the rounded parts of the heart, and there you have it, a burrowing bunny!

To create different coloured chocolate bunnies, you can either use coloured candy melts instead of chocolate, or a Chocolate Colouring Kit.

Once your bunnies are finished, pop one or two in a presentation bag, tie with ribbon and add a gift tag with a personalised note for a home-made gift they’re sure to appreciate.

If you’ve made hot chocolate bombes, you could always include instructions – Remove the tail and the feet, pop in a mug, pour over warm milk, stir and enjoy!
