What is liquorice?
It’s a good question. Liquorice is in fact a plant.
It’s a herb that grows in Europe and Asia, with the root containing something called glycyrrhizin. And the really interesting bit is that it can cause side effects to the body. So, what can it do, we hear you ask?
Well, liquorice can in fact decrease cough symptoms, reduce swelling and even heal ulcers. A lot of liquorice sweets don’t actually contain any of the root and are artificially made from something called anise oil.
But that’s not the case with the liquorice sweets and soft eating liquorice available at Lakeland.

New Zealand-based father and son team Roger Halliwell (dad) and Regan James (RJ) started making liquorice in their hometown of Levin in 1995. They wanted to make high-grade soft liquorice made from liquorice root that didn’t blow your head off and was enjoyable to eat. RJ’s was born.
Today you’ll find RJ’s Soft Eating Natural Liquorice is super tasty and combines the original sweet and aromatic flavours of liquorice in a soft melt-in-the-mouth form. And it’s free from artificial colours, flavours and palm oil.
As well as their original natural soft liquorice you can also enjoy liquorice sweets from RJ’s in raspberry flavour, chocolate covered liquorice as well as fun liquorice allsorts.
