Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 1 "compost bin" Mrs Senior 13 May 2016 The handle is not secure. I was emptying the bin onto the compost heap. Although I had firm hold of the handle, the ceramic crock fell out and smashed. A note from the team Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. I'm sorry to hear of the problem you'd had, I'll be sure to pass your comments to the buying team about the design.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 3 "Disappointed" Mr Williams 13 January 2016 Of those compost crocs in the shop most had a lid which did not fit properly, it appeared to not be truly circular and there was a gap on one side when the lid was on. The whole idea of using the filter is to stop any unpleasant smells that may arise, I thought a gap would allow smells to escape and perhaps those small fruit flies to get in. I think that those with ill-fitting lids should have been rejected and not put on sale. The reason I am writing this is to warn future customers to look at the product before leaving the shop. 5 stars for my old croc and only 3 for my new one. A note from the team Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for the helpful advice you've provided for other customers.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "EXCELLENT" Mrs Bedford 29 June 2015 Delighted with this crock. Had to replace the lid (husband's fault) but fortunately Lakeland sell replacements. Handle can be taken off easily, but once you are aware of this it's quite safe. I put my pot and lid in the dishwasher regularly (minus the handle) and have had no problems with crazing or cracking after many years. It looks good on the kitchen windowsill and doesn't smell when the lid is on. I do use the filters though.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "Poor handle...again!" Mrs McConnell 26 June 2015 I liked this compost crock, a lot...it looks smart on the worktop and no nasty smells at all. However, like many other customers on here, my pot's handle slipped out of it's casing and the pot smashed into our enamel sink as I was turning it upside down to wash out. This slipping has happened many times before, as it happens unpredictably and I have saved it...not so this time. Not sure I will pay £24.99 for a similar thing to happen as it seems a design fault that many people have encountered with this product. Shame as it's good in every other way. A note from the team Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. I'll be sure to pass your comments on about the handle and will be in touch soon.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "lovely compost crock" Ms White 15 June 2015 Have had my compost crock for many years. Looks good and serves the purpose, the only downside is that the handle can come off without any warning unfortunately this happened to me whilst emptying the bin into the composter consequently the crock broke. I now need to buy a new one but might wait to see if Lakeland can improve the fit of the handle before purchasing a new one. A note from the team Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'll be sure to pass your comments to the buying team about the design of the handle.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "Sad that filters discontinued" Mrs Mountford 24 February 2015 I have owned my crock pot for a number of years and have been very happy with it. No problems with handles or fragility at all. I am therefore very disappointed that you have discontinued selling the charcoal filters. Does this mean they aren't required and I have been buying them for no reason? Or will my crock pot start to smell when my last filter ceases to work? A note from the team Thanks for placing your review. The replacement filters are still available but have changed. You can find these on our website by entering the reference number 24238 i to the search box at the top right hand side of the home page or entering the following link in to your search engine. http://www.lakeland.co.uk/24238/8-Round-Replacement-Filters
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 3 "Great Look" Wendy 06 June 2014 I purchased this bin about a year ago because my previous metal compost bin (also from Lakeland) had gone rusty after about 9 months. This pot works well and is easy to clean. However, our council kindly provides liners for our compost bins, which I of course use. This then creates a problem. Around the rim of the pot is a protruding lip, which has a habit of tearing the bags as you remove them. This rim makes the 'exit hole' slightly smaller than the rest of the pot, which means you have to squeeze the contents past it - not its best design feature!! I often end up having to double bag.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "lovely, but needs refining" Catherine 04 February 2014 I love it and it looks great on the work top, but.... I wish that they had put an inner bin inside, so I don't have to see the food recycling bag around the edge. We've made our own inner tube to hide the bag, but lakeland should be offering it with one. On a plus note, the handle is very sturdy so it must have been redesigned following previous comments made about poor handles on an earlier version. A note from the team Thanks for placing your review. We've passed on your suggestion to the buyer
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "Exactly what we wanted" Mrs Speller 21 November 2013 I had been looking for a smart kitchen caddy for sometime - this was exactly as I'd hoped. I would recommend putting some felt protectors on the bottom though as it can scratch the worktop but great that it is dishwasher proof and looks smart tucked in the corner on the side. A note from the team Thank you for placing your review and your handy tip.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "Had it years, recently cracked ++ due to heavy-handedness!" Linda Davis 23 October 2013 Ours lasted 6 or 7 years. I'm a accident prone, so we abandoned the lid. It developing cracks very recently due to my heavy-handed banging of dishes and pots on the rim! A piece of cardboard in the bottom soaks up fluids and enables easy emptying. I dry it with a damp eco-cloth. No mould. Washing it is easy by hand after emptying the compost into a paper bag. I dry it with a damp eco-cloth, & mould has been no problem. I put a piece of cardboard on the bottom to absorb moisture and enable easy emptying. Nothing could match this one, and I look forward to a new crock, same again.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "Stylish" Annabel 18 February 2013 This review is for an older version of this product Looks nice on my worktop. Very stylish and certainly a whole lot better than the brown plastic council supplied one!
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "Attractive and holds a lot of food waste" Terri 31 January 2013 I've had this crock at least 2 years and we use it all the time. One of the first things I did was take off the metal handle, because I could see it wasn't going to stay on. I started out using the filters but don't bother anymore, and don't have any problems with smells. I like the fact that it washes up easily in the dishwasher and that I can buy another lid from Lakeland if I ever need to!
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "A great purchase" R 18 January 2013 We live in married quarters, where we are unable to have a compost heap, but we have our own cottage with a composter that we visit every other weekend. I needed something to store and transport my compost in between cottage visits, so I bought this 6 mths ago. I have not yet needed to change the filter, but I have no smells or flies, despite some food sitting in the crock for up to 2 weeks. The handle is a little loose, but has only ever come off when I am washing the crock out. This was a best buy for me.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "Am Lost Without It!" Mrs Jeal 29 November 2012 I bought this composter many years ago and have religiously used it to compost everything; raw meat, cooked foods, teabags, eggshells, peelings. It's very robust (if a little heavy) but even when it got a crack in the side a year or so ago, never gave off any horrid smells, nor attracted any unwanted insects during hot weather. I love my little crock and a few days ago my husband knocked it off the drainer - I am bereft! I am ordering another today! A handy tip: Put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll in the bottom before filling and then nothing gets stuck in the bottom when emptying.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 3 "Lovely except for the handle" Mrs Marshall 18 April 2012 This looks great and is a very convenient size. I generally really like the product but the handle falls off very frequently. This means it feels risky to carry around or wash up, and, considering the price, is quite a substantial downside. I do find the filter in the lid to be excellent - it really does not get smelly - and the bin looks very attractive. It's just a shame that the handle does not fit a bit more securely. A note from the team Thanks for placing your review. We'll be in touch shortly to help.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 3 "Loved it, but..." Kate Gordon 22 March 2012 This review is for an older version of this product I think this seems to have a common problem - the lid! A beautiful crock and I have had no issues with escaping smells etc, but the lid is VERY fragile. I have glued it back together several times, but unfortunately the lid is now sitting on my worktop, broken, yet again. I'll repair it as best I can, as I can't find a replacement that I actually like, but know it's only a matter of time before it will break again. Such a shame! A note from the team Thanks for taking the time to write your review. Please note: You can buy a compost crock lid our reference 21689 priced at 4.89.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 2 "Great product to start with" Justine Allen 22 March 2012 This review is for an older version of this product Initially, this was a great product. Didn't take up hardly and room or look out of place in my utility room but unfortunately, I have had the same problem as the previous lady and both the lid and crock cracked after going in the dishwasher. I'm now going to purchase the plastic caddy instead. A note from the team We are sorry to advise that the compost crock is not dishwasher safe.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 5 "No smells or fruit flies" Catherine 22 March 2012 This review is for an older version of this product Fantastic - much better than previous caddies I have owned. I will be carefull with the handle/lid ! I went away for a week and the family "forgot" to empty it - no nasty smells , brilliant, and very easy to wash up too.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "Handle with care" Wendy 22 March 2012 This review is for an older version of this product I bought the blue and white patterned crock and am really pleased with it,except for the unreliable handle, after a few near misses I now use it without the handle.such a shame, such a lovely product otherwise. A note from the team Thanks for placing your review. I'll be in touch shortly to help.
Ceramic Crock Food Compost Bin - White 2.8L 4 "Shame about the lid!" Fiona 22 March 2012 This review is for an older version of this product Like everyone here, have found it to be a useful thing and it looks quite smart on the windowsill - but I never or rarely use the handle because I don't have confidence in it!
