Déglon Serrated Tomato Knife 11cm Blade

Product number: 73393

Made by one of France’s best cutlers, the Déglon Serrated Tomato Knife is sure to become one of your favourite salad prep knives in no time at all, due its carefully designed, comfortable wooden handle and serrated blade that gives a sharper cut. And, despite its title, it’s not just for tomatoes or salad veg – the scalloped blade will make easy work of crisp-crusted buns and baguettes too.

Serrated blade slices without squashing

Precisely created by hand, the half-moon-shaped serrations along the edge of this knife maximise the available cutting edge and allow the sharp tips of the blade to incise their way through tender-skinned fruits and vegetables like tomatoes without squashing them the way straight blades can. Invented in the 1930s by Jean Déglon and much copied, this crescent shaping also ensures that the majority of the cutting edge is kept well away from the blunting effect of your chopping board.

Stainless steel blade

Made with superb quality stainless steel (X46Cr13 to be precise), a metal that holds its sharpness well, the blade is held firmly in place in the wooden handle with two brass nails.

Beechwood handle

Ergonomically designed, the beechwood handle has been raised at a precise angle to allow you to cut through your food prep tasks in comfort and with maximum efficiency, letting the full length of the blade cut all the way through an item without ‘trapping’ your fingers under the handle. Riveted with brass for a touch of style.

About Déglon

French master cutlers Déglon trace their origins back to 1921, when Swiss national Jean Déglon moved to Thiers in France – considered to be the French equivalent of Sheffield for cutlers and knife makers – to set up a workshop. Almost a century on, the company has grown enormously but is still controlled by the Déglon family. With Jean’s grandson Thierry at the helm, Déglon use impressive technology where it can eliminate tedious tasks, but always ensure that skilled artisans are in charge of every stage of a knife’s creation, particularly in the final stages of sharpening and polishing the blade.

Bought this as an afterthought when I was placing an order; however I've found it very handy and it does the job well.
