About willow wood
Renowned for being easy to grow from cuttings – and especially famous for its strength when made into cricket bats – willow is also valued for the flexibility of its twigs and stems which can be woven into baskets, furniture, sculptures and fencing that will last for years. Less well known is that willow is often used in thin layers to create thin but sturdy plywood boxes and trays, and for the back and side panels of stringed instruments. Because it’s fast growing and will readily regrow after cutting, it’s also popular as a biomass fuel.
