Standing neatly upright in their case and always ready for action on your worktop, the three tough bamboo boards in Joseph Joseph’s Index Bamboo Chopping Board Set feature coded tabs with icons for easy identification to avoid cross-contamination. And for those of us who like to keep things simple, it’s refreshing to have different boards for different tasks but in the same design.
Index Tabs Help Reduce Cross-Contamination
Sensibly sized, easy-grip tabs in sleek silvery metal make it easy to choose and lift the board you need. And raised icons help you identify each board at a glance – with an icon on each side so you can’t possibly mistake which board you want for the task in hand.
Tough Bamboo Cutting Surfaces
As durable as the toughest hardwood cutting boards, but much lighter, bamboo is knife-friendly yet resists cut marks to stay looking smart for longer than a plastic board.
Space-Saving Upright Storage
Each of the boards has a slot in its side that fits neatly onto the precisely engineered, unobtrusive stand for storage, so you never have to go hunting for a chopping board – they’re always just where you need them – but they don’t take up precious space on your worktop. The silvery metal stand has a non-slip base to ensure it stays put on your kitchen counter and won’t slide about when you’re removing one of the boards.
The boards should be wiped with a clean damp cloth after use.
About Joseph Joseph
The whole Joseph Joseph team share their founders’ enthusiasm for innovation and are passionate about bringing problem-solving products to as many households as possible. And, whatever the problem they solve, we always find ourselves asking ‘why didn’t anyone think of that before?’
Technically a grass, bamboo shares many of the properties of wood. Dense, durable and water-resistant, its pale, multi-layered good looks are appearing in more and more homes as furniture, flooring and for kitchen storage. Not just good-looking, bamboo is very hard-wearing, shrugging off stains and cut marks, which makes it ideal for kitchen chopping boards. Fast-growing and unfussy about where it grows, bamboo is the ultimate sustainable wood source, growing to maturity in just three to six years and providing a steady income to its growers – so it’s a great alternative to traditional, slow-growing timbers which can take decades to mature.
Please note: bamboo is 15-20% harder than many hardwoods, so knife blades may need to be sharpened more often than when using traditional hardwood boards.
(The natural antibacterial properties of hardwood cutting surfaces have been proven after extensive testing in American university research labs, notably Dean O. Cliver and his team at the Food Research Institute of Wisconsin-Madison University.) It’s recommended that wooden boards should be stacked on their long sides, especially when drying, so that any residual damp cannot ‘track’ up the grain and cause expansion which may eventually encourage the board to split.
Boards 35 x 25cm. Stand with boards 35 x 9.5 x 29.5cm H.
