If you’d like to have a go at fermenting at home, but don’t want to invest in lots of specialist kit, these simple, reusable, silicone Pickle Pipe fermentation airlock inserts allow you to turn a screw-top Ball Mason jar into a self-burping fermentation jar.
Designed to fit snugly inside the metal band of the lid and create a perfectly airtight seal, each one features a low-profile spout with a special one-way valve that allows the build-up of natural gases inside the jar to vent automatically without letting unwanted oxygen in.
Ideal for home production of sauerkraut, kimchi and many other popular fermented foods, they’re really quick and easy to fit, and they make the process of fermenting fruit and veg completely faff-free.

Excellent air locks for lacto fermenting sauerkraut etc. Made of silicone so they are pretty indestructible and far easier to use than other similar products. Hope Lakeland will start stocking the tough bands and other masontops products

These are so simple to use and make great pickles (Kim chi, sauerkraut, cucumbers). The pickles will last for ages in the fridge without spoiling.
In truth, both 5 & 3 stars. It's a brilliant idea: only just got mine but I've read a lot about them. Until now I've been using the Pickl-it method, which I imported from the US. Those use a traditional airlock- Pickle Pipes are simpler. BUT, if you like lacto fermentation then you need the widemouth jars & wide mouth Pickle Pipes /fermentation stones, because cauliflower, lemons, green beans, carrot sticks etc are fiddly to get out of regular jars. I suggest you get the plastic lids, if you like lacto fermentation as salt and metal aren't good. 10/10 to Lakeland for knowing about these!
