I had 3 iced fruit cakes and had to produce a wedding cake. I was unsure whether the dowels would work but we made a paper template and marked the holes for the dowels. I uses a wood stick to make the holes to avoid fruit cake going into the dowels. Cut the dowels to size required and hey presto we had our wedding cake which was much admired and cost less than £20. I have a photo but not sure how to add.
Easy to cut to size but still sturdy enough to support your cake.
