It certainly is heatproof, I have put very hot pans on it and there is no warmth underneath. My only concern is that it does stain very easily as it is absorbent, however a quick 'grease away' product deals with those stains. If you put your teapot on it, it actually keeps the tea hot. I love this poroduct.
