Kuhn Rikon Quick Slice Mandoline

An easy to use and safe to handle kitchen tool.

Bought this for my partner because he was coveting mine (a Goodgrips one - also from Lakeland). It’s okay but the blade flexes because the unit is not made of tough enough plastic and also it just doesn’t seems as sharp as my existing one. The double blade design makes the blade wobble which is not ideal if you are not using the safety holder (which veg make a bid for freedom from at every opportunity). Pro points: dog thinks it’s great because every time it wobble she get to nick a dropped carrot sliver. Cons: does not give controlled cut and liable to slippage.

Quite good for slicing items you can get a grip on. The holder/guard is not very good for holding long items (carriots) and you cannot slice them to the very end as the blade does not adjust

I'm afraid this mandoline, which I purchased in order to make fine-sliced salads from a variety of vegetables, has been a big disappointment. The blade is fixed, so it's not possible to alter the thickness of the slices, and the slices produced are too thick for most purposes (a sharp knife is more effective). And the blades do not appear sharp enough to cut cleanly. An added problem is that the hand guard does not grip the food item firmly enough to allow the dual motion slicing to be carried out effectively.

I bought this as it was advertised alongside the dehydrator I bought, but it was completely useless in terms of cutting the thin slices I needed as you can not alter the blade, I could not get a good enough grip on the potato to smoothly use the mandolin both ways, even using just one way was very hard. There is no depth under the base for slices to collect and I did not get one whole slice of anything out of it, the blade simply did not seem sharp enough and was set way too high. Very disappointing and I will be asking to return.
