when I bought this the sales assistant suggested rolling out the pastry to the thickness of pound coin. I tried this, it’s too thick. I rolled my pastry to 2mm using a Joseph rolling pin and the 2nd batch were much better. The little triangles don’t stamp out so you can either winkle them out with a cocktail stick or just leave them as a pattern on the top. I took some of them out and the mincemeat ran out the holes. Also, I brushed the edges with egg wash and didn’t press down too much when sealing it together. I put some flour in the mould they came out well
This is a very handy mould. It is very good and easy to use, and seals well no problems at all, also very Christmas looking.
Had happy visions of making a box full of these for grandchildren/us/Christmas. Tried it and you need to roll the pastry VERY thick [ thicker than usual]scrunch the cutters in flour before cutting the pastry.Ifilled the bottom not the lid as my homemade mincemeat is runny [alcohol added] One and a half lbs of flour has made 16 pies . Some of them broke when cooking but I have eaten them . I don't like mince pies but these are light on the mincemeat and I do like pastry.Going to try with apple filling as well, need to make 40+ so will be a marathon cook-in
Was so excited to try this mould...used it today for a trial run for making mince pies for Christmas using shortcrust pastry. Disaster! The pastry stuck in the mould and wouldn't come out...all properly chilled and rested as it was. Tried again, this time dusting the mould with flour first, fared a little better, but when it came to cutting the tops, it was a nightmare. The little holes got stuck full of pastry and it had to be winkled out between cuttings. Really disappointed, it had such great promise. First Lakeland product I've ever had to write a bad review for!
