Joseph Joseph® Handi-Grate Multi-Function Grater

Lakeland's description leads you to believe that the guard can be used to protect your fingers when grating/slicing, but this is not so. The guard can only be used on the slicing side. The grating side is good for grating garlic but you need very nimble fingers and short nails. The shape, size and weight of the product are handy; however, I cannot think what else one might want to slice other than radishes. I am certain that if the description of the product was more accurate, people would not feel so disappointed and would have awarded this product a full 5 stars.

I wanted to replace an worn out similar tool and purchased this, now for the second time. It is so bad I assumed the first was manufactured incorrectly. The holder is not in good alignment with the slicing blade, meaning that chunks of garlic come out rather than thin slices. The grater is on the opposite side, so you can't use the holder/finger guard. What is the point? This is a very sharp grater and for me the whole point is the finger guard/holder so you can grate garlic or ginger quickly and safely. Overpriced design by Joseph.

I too thought that this item was faulty when I first tried to use it. The guard is on the wrong side of the blades so does absolutely nothing. Whoever designed this didn't actually try to use it.

I bought this specifically for grating ginger safely using the guard. Unfortunately the guard does not work on the grating side. When grating the ginger clogs up the grater anyway, I resorted to using my old grater. This one just does not work. This is the second one I have tried, as a replacement was sent just in case the first was faulty, no as with the other comments I agree this is a faulty design unfit for purpose.
