Madesmart Drying Stone Dishrack

Product number: 62962

No draining board? No problem. madesmart’s Drying Stone Dishrack has two in-built natural stone mats that soak up water incredibly quickly, helping to dry your dishes faster, more hygienically, and keep your countertops completely dry too.

Dedicated space for all your dishes

There are four deep compartments at one end, perfect for separating out knives, forks, spoons and utensils. Eight slots take cake of plates, and the flat stone mat at the other end is perfect for cups and glasses. And it’s that flat stone mat – and the one under the rest of the rack – that soak up any drips, splashes and water rings, making them vanish as if by magic…

Mats quickly soak up excess water

The ‘magic’ ingredient in the Drying Stone mats is diatomite, a highly porous natural material that quickly absorbs any liquid that comes into contact with it. Once absorbed, the water rapidly evaporates from the stones, so their surfaces stay dry to the touch rather than getting waterlogged. The speed at which they ‘suck’ water up also helps to eliminate any germs and bacteria left on your dishes, and stops moisture leaking out over your work surfaces.

Easy to clean

The Drying Stones are easy to remove from the non-slip plastic base when they need a clean – there are full instructions on the packaging – and they can either be washed by hand or popped in the dishwasher before being placed outside in the sun to help them dry.

About diatomite

A soft, highly porous rock, mostly made up from the tiny fossils of single-celled algae called diatoms, super-absorbent diatomite has also been used to filter water, beer and wine; as a very mild abrasive in toothpaste and metal polish; an anti-caking agent; a growing medium for potted plants (especially bonsai); in cat litter; and even in dynamite.

"Amazing drainer"

I thought buying this was a bit of a gamble. Turns out to be an outstanding purchase. Low profile and neat design means it looks fine in our kitchen diner. Does its main job of soaking up water outstandingly well. And easy to keep clean. A strong recommend as they say.

"Love the design but weird smell from stone"

This review is for an older version of this product

Really liked the look and design of the drying rack. We needed something to fit into a smaller space and this is perfect. Does not hold a lot, such as multiple saucepans etc, but with only two people's washing up, it is fine and we typically dry up larger items anyway! My only real concern is the smell that comes from the drying stone. I've washed it a few times and left it out in the sun, but a mouldy kind of smell still emits from it which is worrying if it doesn't go away.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear of your experience. We'd recommend trying to wash it in a dishwasher if this isn't how it was previously cleaned.

Put this on draining board a couple of days ago and myself and wife think it looks good. Dry stone does what it says on website. Just one thing it says read instructions but found there was none with it.

"Works well, but"

Plates fit well, had to turn cereal bowls backwards to rest it against another plate. Only problem is cleaning - to lessen water residue left behind and also minimise marks

"Allows water through"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

Have tried to make this work for us for several months now, but unfortunately it isn't to be. I really loved the concept, but it does let water through the stones, so is no good on a wooden work surface. No matter how much I try to shake excess water off glasses etc, after a few days I find some has leaked through. It also gets stained easily, though I have tried both hand and dishwashing the stones, and leaving them to dry in the sun. I know I can't return it now due to the length of time; but please be aware - especially with a wooden work surface- this may not be for you.

“Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear of your disappointment with the dishrack. If water marks are left on the stone, we’d recommend gently scrubbing the stone board with either a piece of steel wool or abrasive sponge, making sure that you’re following the direction of the material/grain. We’ve been in touch to offer a full refund under our three year guarantee.”
