madesmart Drying Stone Dishrack

Product number: 62962

No draining board? No problem. madesmart’s Drying Stone Dishrack has two in-built natural stone mats that soak up water incredibly quickly, helping to dry your dishes faster, more hygienically, and keep your countertops completely dry too.

Dedicated space for all your dishes

There are four deep compartments at one end, perfect for separating out knives, forks, spoons and utensils. Eight slots take cake of plates, and the flat stone mat at the other end is perfect for cups and glasses. And it’s that flat stone mat – and the one under the rest of the rack – that soak up any drips, splashes and water rings, making them vanish as if by magic…

Mats quickly soak up excess water

The ‘magic’ ingredient in the Drying Stone mats is diatomite, a highly porous natural material that quickly absorbs any liquid that comes into contact with it. Once absorbed, the water rapidly evaporates from the stones, so their surfaces stay dry to the touch rather than getting waterlogged. The speed at which they ‘suck’ water up also helps to eliminate any germs and bacteria left on your dishes, and stops moisture leaking out over your work surfaces.

Easy to clean

The Drying Stones are easy to remove from the non-slip plastic base when they need a clean – there are full instructions on the packaging – and they can either be washed by hand or popped in the dishwasher before being placed outside in the sun to help them dry.

About diatomite

A soft, highly porous rock, mostly made up from the tiny fossils of single-celled algae called diatoms, super-absorbent diatomite has also been used to filter water, beer and wine; as a very mild abrasive in toothpaste and metal polish; an anti-caking agent; a growing medium for potted plants (especially bonsai); in cat litter; and even in dynamite.

"Not a fan"

star star star_border star_border star_border

Have to say I am disappointed by this product. It looks neat but isn't well designed as plates hide the cutlery rack and it's difficult to balance any kind of bowl. I have followed the instructions to the letter with regard to cleaning the stones and do this regularly. However, they quickly became discoloured and unsightly. The worst problem is that water stays beneath the rack, which I hadn't anticipated. This makes it smelly if left, so the rack needs to be tilted on end to dry itself properly. This was an expensive mistake and I would not recommend.

"Doesn't work as good as it looks"

I have used this for several months and it doesn't work as good as it looks. I like the look and it's a perfect size but like other reviews it doesn't hold dishes as it's too shalllow. The drying stone looks dirty even though I put it all in the dishwasher every week as it retains water and starts to smell. Now giving up on this one and ordering a different type

We’re very sorry to hear it didn't meet your expectations, but glad to see you've already ordered an alternative

I purchased the drying stone dish rack in August 2020 and decided to give it a fair chance before my review but I'm disappointed it only fits half way across the draining board therefore its small. Check the size before you purchase. Although it speeds up the drying for glassware, my plates and bowls roll side ways off the rack as the plastic rack is not deep enough. Clearing the dish rack is time consuming (compared to a metal rack) as it all has to be taken apart to clean with the sonic cleaning brush. Personally, I wouldn't recommend it.

I got sick of having to clean the Joseph rack in a bath of hot bleach. Binned it and bought this. Several problems that I have resolved. Firstly, it has to sit sideways on my draining board as I'm too short to see over the plates to place the cutlery in the holder. Then after breaking two cups and a plate as someone thought that fitting a two-piece cutlery holder would be great. No. Almost impossible to balance any dishes against it, then it gets too heavy and all collapses. So I glued the cutlery thing together. Much better and acceptable. Can still clean the rack bits in the sink.

Many thanks for placing a review. We’re pleased you were able to make the dish rack work for you. You can also return it to any of our Lakeland stores when they reopen with the receipt. All our products do come with a three year guarantee. Our Lakeland black aluminium dishrack number 62948 maybe a a suitable alternative to try. Thanks again for your feedback.

"Wish I hadn’t .."

... bought this. I’ve had it a day and could kick myself. It’s nicely dainty as expected BUT drainer too shallow to support my dinner plates. Or chopping boards unless resting on something else. Or baking trays ditto. ‘Someone’ rinsed a mug (TBF looked clean), put it to drain on the end stone which stained. I followed cleaning instructions to the letter other than leaving it to dry in ‘direct sunlight’ - in Scottish November?! - but the mug-shaped ring is now permanent. Overpriced & inefficient. Zero stars.
