As grown-up as we claim to be, the Lakeland Catalogue Team still enjoy a good magic Rope Trick… and we can always rely on our Buying colleague Jane to demonstrate them, in character, complete with a theatrical accent for comedic effect.

Abracadabra!

“Prepare to be amazed as I pull zis rope through za magic cutting case then slice it into two with za cut ends clearly visible…” Jane paused here to build the tension and show off her handiwork, then called for a bit of audience participation… “All say ‘abracadabra’ and za rope is magically restored to zis single piece!”

Although we still don’t know how the ‘magic’ works, we were suitably amazed, amused and entertained – as were Jane’s two young children who quickly mastered the trick at home and are now showing it off to audiences of their own.

How do you make one large dice turn into eight tiny ones? A shout of ‘abracadabra’ and a little help from this Magic Exploding Dice set ought to do the trick!

When we first saw it at our Christmas Show & Tell, this little dice trick had us all scratching our heads… After confirming that we could indeed only see one large dice in the jar, Jane from our Buying Team gave it a quick shake and the dice ‘exploded’, leaving eight tiny colourful dice in its place. Ta-dah! Jane told us that, despite many magical performances at home, her two young boys still haven’t figured it out – and that they’re amazed every time!

Abracadabra!

A magician doesn’t usually reveal their tricks, but we were sworn to secrecy (oops!) and Jane broke with protocol to reveal that the secret may lay within the large dice, which happens to be hollow and magnetic... A super-simple trick to learn, children will be performing to enthralled spectators in no time. However, if certain members of our Catalogue Team are anything to go by, grown-ups might take a little longer to master the magic (it’s all in the shake!), but it’ll give everyone a really good giggle after Christmas dinner.

House of Marbles Magic Cups and Balls Trick

A classic close-up magic trick that all good magicians cut their teeth on, the Cups & Balls trick is easy to learn, requiring only a subtle sleight of hand and just a little audience misdirection to convince them of your magical abilities.

Magic wand optional!

We can’t prove it, but we think Jane from our Buying Team might actually be magical, as, with some shuffling of the cups, a wave of her hand and some magic words, she made the fluffy little pompoms jump from one cup to another. Amazing! Next she made them fall magically through a solid cup, and somehow got them to fly, unseen, from her pocket to below a cup. Quite incredible! Jane refused to take us into her magic circle and share her secrets, but all will be revealed on the illuminating instructions that are included.

With a little help, young children will be able to master the magic, but – if Jane’s performance was anything to go by – adults will enjoy this fun party piece too.
