About Bamboo
Technically a grass, bamboo shares many of the properties of wood. Dense, durable and water-resistant, its pale, multi-layered good looks are appearing in more and more homes as furniture, flooring and for kitchen storage. Not just good-looking, bamboo is very hard-wearing, shrugging off stains and cut marks, which makes it ideal for kitchen chopping boards. Please note: bamboo is 15-20% harder than many hardwoods, so knife blades may need to be sharpened more often than when using traditional hardwood boards.
It’s recommended that wooden boards should be stacked with the grain running horizontally, especially when drying, so that any residual damp cannot ‘track’ up the grain and cause expansion which may eventually encourage the board to split.
