The Ooni 3 pizza oven is super-fast to cook with, remarkably cheap in comparison to other wood-fired outdoor ovens and compact enough for even the smallest yard or garden. If you let the flames die down and let it cool a bit you can even do calzone - you'll need to refuel in between as it doesn't retain heat for very long... Will definitely be taking this camping.

    We tried the Ooni 3 tonight for the first time and were prepared to throw away the first couple of pizzas until we got the hang of it. Well, we ended up eating them as they were pretty near perfect. The oven heats up really quickly and it does cook pizza in 60 seconds, you need to turn it after 30 seconds to get a uniform browning... How does Ooni work?

  1. Add pellets to the pellet hopper and light

  2. Air flows in through vents

  3. The fuel burns, creating a fire and hot air

  4. The hot air heats up the Ooni and cooks the food through radiating heat

  5. Baking stones also heat up, cooking food from the bottom - this helps create a traditional crisp and crusty pizza base

    How does it work?

    The Ooni 3 Wood-Fired Pizza Oven is fuelled by 100% sustainable beechwood pellets, which are dense and inexpensive. They are just like regular wood, only compressed. They ignite easily, helping the oven reach temperatures of over 500°C in just 10 minutes!

    The cordierite pizza stone inside absorbs and holds the heat and soaks up any moisture in your dough to give you traditionally crisp-crusted pizza in as little as 60 seconds.

Invented by Kristian Tapaninaho with his partner Darina Garland, Ooni ovens are inspired by Italian pizza ovens but they’re super-fast to heat, and super-speedy to cook in, and they wanted to take this opportunity to share their story, recipes and inspiration for great outdoor cooking.

    Beautifully illustrated, Cooking with Fire is designed to help you get the most out of your Ooni oven, whether you’re cooking in your own back yard or garden, at a campsite, on the beach, or wherever the wind takes you.

    Home-made pizza and so much more

    Home-made pizza was the inspiration for the Ooni’s invention so, perhaps obviously, the book is brimming with ideas for creating an amazing array of Neapolitan-style pizzas. Starting with a chapter on ‘Classics’ it takes you through the essentials of making pizza the Ooni way – from kneading the perfect bread dough and tomato sauce to assembling that all-time classic of the pizza-loving world, the Margherita.

    Three more chapters invite us to travel and explore the recipes that have developed from Kristian’s roots in Finland – think freshwater fish, rustic breads and garden-fresh vegetables, with lots of ideas for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Then we move south through the street-food influences of London where the first Ooni was invented, spicy pizza toppings, kebabs, hotdogs – more veggies – and even a Caribbean-inspired, rum-soaked, flambéed pineapple.
