A gas-fired take on Ooni’s world-famous wood-fired pizza ovens, the Ooni Koda is ready to go in seconds – there’s no assembly, no mess and no fuss. And, as you’d expect from Ooni, it turns out amazingly tasty, crisp-based pizzas.
Ready right out of the box, Ooni Koda is good to go in seconds – simply flip open the foldable legs, insert the cordierite stone baking board, and connect to a gas bottle.
Because there’s no chimney and the legs fold neatly away, it’s really easy to take wherever you want – out to the back garden, round to a friend’s barbecue, or to the beach. And it’s so compact that it’s perfect for anyone whose outdoor space is restricted to a small backyard, or even a balcony.
Box contains: gas-fired Ooni Koda pizza oven, cordierite stone baking board, 37mBar gas burner (attached to the oven), match holder, user manual, safety instructions and Essentials Guide including recipes, tips and hints.
There’s no fiddling around with wood pellets with this model. Just link up the integral gas burner to a bottle of propane – it takes standard UK propane gas bottles – and press the one-touch gas piezo ignition. It starts heating up immediately, getting up to a scorching 500°C in just fifteen minutes. The waterfall-effect flame distribution means it heats up evenly, while the built-in flame keeper maximises heat and directs the flame towards food for faster results. The gas regulator gives a constant flame that doesn’t need to be stoked or ‘fed’ to keep it going, and there’s no grate to clean when everything’s cooled down and the guests have gone home.
A simple adjustable dial lets you increase or decrease the flame, giving you control over the heat. Turned up full, it’ll cook delicious, crisp-based pizza in just 60 seconds, and you can turn it down and experiment with a whole range of other food, from flatbreads to chargrilled fish, roast vegetables and seared steaks – all without leaving the party.
The secret to perfect pizza is the cordierite stone baking board, which absorbs and holds the heat, soaking up any moisture in your dough to give you traditionally crisp-crusted pizza in just 60 seconds. Because you’re cooking on gas this oven doesn’t need a door, and the open front is perfect for popping pizzas in and whipping them out, and for keeping an eye on them while they cook. The foldaway legs stay cool so you can place the oven anywhere without worrying about damaging the top of your outdoor table. Fresh from Scotland, the Ooni team are proud to present their very first cookbook, Ooni: Cooking with Fire. Invented by Kristian Tapaninaho with his partner Darina Garland, Ooni ovens are inspired by Italian pizza ovens but they’re super-fast to heat, and super-speedy to cook in, and they wanted to take this opportunity to share their story, recipes and inspiration for great outdoor cooking.
Beautifully illustrated, Cooking with Fire is designed to help you get the most out of your Ooni oven, whether you’re cooking in your own back yard or garden, at a campsite, on the beach, or wherever the wind takes you.
Home-made pizza was the inspiration for the Ooni’s invention so, perhaps obviously, the book is brimming with ideas for creating an amazing array of Neapolitan-style pizzas. Starting with a chapter on ‘Classics’ it takes you through the essentials of making pizza the Ooni way – from kneading the perfect bread dough and tomato sauce to assembling that all-time classic of the pizza-loving world, the Margherita.
Three more chapters invite us to travel and explore the recipes that have developed from Kristian’s roots in Finland – think freshwater fish, rustic breads and garden-fresh vegetables, with lots of ideas for vegetarians as well as meat eaters. Then we move south through the street-food influences of London where the first Ooni was invented, spicy pizza toppings, kebabs, hotdogs – more veggies – and even a Caribbean-inspired, rum-soaked, flambéed pineapple.
The last chapter covers Scotland – now home to Kristian, Darina and the Ooni HQ – with breakfast-themed pizzas, seafood dishes and roasted meals inspired by the mountains and rugged coastline of this dramatic country.
