A fantastic way of trying lots of deliciously different tastes, colours and textures within one meal, thali (a bit like tapas) is a selection of small dishes named after the metal dish or platter it’s usually served on. For your delectation, in this kit from The Spicery you’ll find all the spice blends you need to make two authentic Indian thali feasts – one from northern India and one from southern India – for two people. And as every dish is vegan (although they can be adapted to add meat if you want), they can be enjoyed by everyone who loves Indian food.
Tracking down the more obscure spices you need to recreate the authentic flavours of Indian food at home isn’t always easy – luckily, the experts at The Spicery have done the leg-work for you, and each blend in this Meat-Free Magic Curry Recipe Kit has been sourced, ground and mixed by them to perfection so you can enjoy a sense-thrilling taste of India at home.
North V south
Northern thalis are usually heartier and tend to involve more starchy root vegetables, while southern thalis are lighter and often include coconut – both are generally served with rice and chapatis or popadoms, and, of course, are equally tasty. From the north we have a rich mixed veg curry accompanied by spinach-based saag aloo, a fresh tomato salad and tangy tamarind chutney. And from the south, a vibrant tomato-based thakkali curry served with dhal, coconut chutney and kosambari – an Indian take on coleslaw.
What’s in the box?
Inside the colourful box you’ll find 8 pre-mixed spice blends, a laminated recipe card, and a list of the additional ingredients needed to make two spectacular vegan thali feasts, each comprising four dishes for two people (42g).
And the recipe card also includes a 'make this again' section using standard ingredients, giving you the option of making all this delicious food again from scratch.
