Tasting authentic foods from around the globe is one of life’s true pleasures – unfortunately, it can be rather expensive to travel around the world just for a slap-up dinner. Luckily, the curry experts at The Spicery have found the very best curry recipes from around the world and put them into this rather beautiful and easy-to-follow recipe book. Accompanying the cookbook are four unique hand-mixed spice blends that form the basis of each curry, and there’s a handy measuring spoon to take away the guesswork too, instantly transforming culinary novices into curry legends.
Be a curry legend
It couldn’t be easier to provide guests with a full banquet of flavourful delights, including mains, breads, sides and dips. With helpful hints throughout, each recipe also includes side suggestions and substitutions, so you can adapt recipes to suit your tastes and dietary requirements.
What’s in the box?
Curries from around the world
Passionate about curry, The Spicery searched the globe to find the best flavours, discovering different cultures’ interpretations of this much-loved meal. In their beautifully illustrated book, The Spicery have used the four special Curry Legend blends, and taken them on a world tour, from the herb-scented curries of the Caribbean, to South African bunny chow, the mild curries of Mauritius…, and everywhere else between. Here is a sneak preview of what this culinary world tour has to offer…
South Asia – Tender and flavoursome, Sri Lankan Beef Smore (slow-cooked beef) is perfect for long, cold evenings.
Southeast Asia – Transport yourself to a Thai beach with the tantalising spicy yet creamy Panang Curry.
Africa – The interesting (and delicious!) combination of curried minced meat with a custard-like topping makes the Babotie a must-try.
Caribbean – Get a taste of the exotic with Run Down curry, made with banana, root veg and chicken.
Rice and breads – make your own perfectly seasoned flat breads and rice to complement your curry.
Sides – Create a full banquet by adding sides, including Coconut Dahl and Malaysian Cucumber Kerabu which is sweet, sour and spicy all at once.
Sauces and condiments – a curry without a condiment is just plain wrong, so The Spicery have kindly provided you with many to complete your feast, with everything from Mango Hot Sauce to Somalian Date Chutney – delish!
Four spice blends
The kit contains four special spice blends (made from a whopping 18 different spices) contained in handy storage tins so they’re always for the next spice endeavour. Each mix is prepared by hand before being packed into the tins, ensuring they’re fresh and full of flavour so every curry packs a punch. Each recipe has a clear key, indicating how many scoops of each blend you need to make each curry. It really is amazingly simple – even less confident cooks in our office reported making restaurant-worthy curries they never would have had the confidence to try before.
Not only do you get the 90 delicious recipes included in the book, you can use your unique code (inside your book) to unlock extra recipes on The Spicery’s website – armed with your unique spice blends, you’ll never run short of exciting new dishes to cook.
Started by passionate chef James Ransome from his own home in 2005, The Spicery first sold its super-fresh spices and recipe blends on market stalls and James’ hard work soon paid off. Now working with an equally enthusiastic team of spice aficionados from a dedicated premises in Bristol and gathering recipe ideas from their close association with local refugee charities, The Spicery provides spices to famous chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Rick Stein and Yotam Ottolenghi, as well as producing deliciously inspiring recipe packs for adventurous home cooks.
