If you’re a creative cocktail mixer, pride yourself on your bar skills and want to add fun, colour, flavour and flavour to your concoctions, these Lotus Root Slices in Hibiscus & Ginger Syrup should go straight to the top of your ‘great garnishes’ wish list.
Deliciously different cocktail garnish
You could finish off your cocktails with olives. Or maraschino cherries (we sell some lovely ones). Or a zesty twist of orange or lime. But if you really want to dress your cocktails to impress, lotus root slices are a must-have in any mixologist’s bag of tricks, helping you finish off any creative concoction in cocktail bar-worthy style.
Attractive lotus root slices
Prettily perforated with holes in a distinctive ‘snowflake’ pattern, every slim slice of lotus root adds immediate interest to drinks. Slot a slice over the rim; float one on top of ice or foam; position one or more against the inside of a glass… each thin slice with its subtly different, unique pattern adds real ‘wow’ and makes your cocktails stand out from the crowd.
In hibiscus and ginger syrup
The brilliant red syrup combines the bright colour and rhubarb/raspberry flavour of wild hibiscus flowers with the earthy, fiery tang of ginger, so just a few drops adds a swirl of intense colour and a sweet and sour kick when added to your drinks. You can also use the syrup to colour red cocktails or sauces – the colour is heat-stable so it retains its pure, clear red colour without fading to brown.
Adds interest to desserts
Not just for cocktails, they’re perfect perched on the side of a sundae glass to glam up ice cream, with maybe just a swirl of syrup too. Match the colour with raspberry cheesecake, or the flavour with ginger desserts – you can even eat the crisp little discs once you’re done.
Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free
Created from just four all-natural ingredients – lotus root slices, pressed hibiscus flower juice, cane sugar and fresh ginger – both the slices and the syrup are gluten-free and suitable for vegans.

What is lotus root?
Made from the underground stems of the lotus flower, lotus root is a popular ingredient in Far Eastern cuisine. Incredibly versatile, with a crunchy texture and slightly sweet, tangy flavour, it’s commonly treated as a vegetable in Chinese and Japanese cooking – traditionally deep-fried, stir-fried, cooked in soup, served in salads, soaked in syrup or pickled in vinegar – and used to make lotus root tea in Korea.
… and why is it full of holes?
Lotus stems spend their lives constantly submerged in water and mud, so the holes get air from above the water surface down to the rest of the plant, and help it to ‘breathe’. Every stem has the same distinctive pattern but, because the holes grow as part of the plant, every slice of lotus root is uniquely different – just like a snowflake.
200g - 12 x 3mm slices in syrup., (400p per 100g.)
