It’s just what you need to serve up a zingy guest-pleasing dessert with almost no effort on your part, and it makes a great store cupboard standby if unexpected hungry guests turn up on your doorstep.

Just add eggs, butter and milk

All the dry ingredients are supplied in easy-to-use sachets, so you only need to add butter, eggs and a little milk to the sponge mix, and a little warm water to the icing mix to get it ready for drizzling. Voila! You’ll have a light, zesty cake that’s perfect for serving with afternoon tea. And if you want to pass it off as one of your own… well, we won’t tell.

Makes a 2lb loaf or 8" round cake

You’ll need either a 2lb loaf tin or a 20cm/8" deep round cake tin to make this bake, and you’ll find both in our range if you fancy treating yourself to a new tin.
