"Don't use this when frying"

star star star_border star_border star_border

I bought a great heavy frying pan and since I don't like using metal on metal, I bought this multi-purpose spatula from Lakeland. Information says heat-resistant upto 180°C. Would have found it more useful if it said what you can't use this spatula for! I was frying chopped liver and garlic in my pan and on the 3rd stir, I noticed the front was melting and crumpling up. The oil I used was olive oil (which google says has a smoke point of 190-200°C). What is that? Live and learn? You've been warned.

"Melting spatulas!"

I too fell foul of the fact that these are not suitable for higher temperatures. I have melted mine while making a stir fry! Very disappointing. Maybe Lakeland could make this point a bit clearer to stop others wasting money.

"If you want flexible, then the old version was better"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I ordered some new ones to replace my old tatty ones and they are not the same at all. These are much more rigid and you have to use quite a bit of pressure to scrape anything not bowl shaped. I have to say lakeland were excellent. I gave them such a scathing review that they phoned me and sent me a replacement just in case it was a bad batch - no different though. Lakeland 5 stars. New Rubbermaid spatula 1 star. The old one would have had 5. Never had a problem with them breaking as in other reviews but then I don't put them in dishwasher.

"Best spatula ever!"

This review is for an older version of this product

I don't know how I have gone so long baking without this spatula! It scrapes the sides of your bowl perfectly.

"Good product but......."

star star star star star_border

I really like these products, albeit the new ones aren't nearly as good as the old ones. However, they all have an inherent fault in that the handle tends to weaken, then snap, half-way up. This happened in the old version but is much more prevalent in the later/est ones. The spoon part is excellent and dishwashes well; it is the handle that lets it down. With this in mind, I am considering changing to a similar product that has a wooden handle.
