About our virtually unbreakable melamine

Made from virtually unbreakable melamine which is famed for being chip-resistant, and given a liquid glass coating that makes it impervious to scratches and stains, this Lemon Grove plate looks uncannily like artisan-glazed pottery, complete with slightly dimpled surface, but is so much more durable. And, being both tough and lightweight, it can be carried easily from place to place without weighing your picnic bag down.

Excellent quality and bright and cheerful even on a overcast day, can’t guarantee blue skies and sunshine everyday! I bought the full range and it looked lovely set on the patio table. I had compliments from friends and family for making them feel welcome although I think the range of beautiful plates etc helped a lot with a few asking where I bought it from. Recommended.

These plates are very sturdy and I love the design around the edge but not so sure about the mottled brown across the centre. I think it's meant to look rustic but just looks a bit grubby. Personal opinion, of course. It's worth noting that these are not meant to be put in the dishwasher. We've chosen to risk them as we used them every day for lunch in the garden and it would get annoying having to hand wash just two plates. They are still looking good but time will tell.

So delighted with the look and feel of these gorgeous plates. So very disappointed to find that they are not dishwasher proof! Honestly, who handwashes dishes these days? I am amazed they even make picnic plates that can't go in the dishwasher :-o I thought that I must have misread the description but, no, there is no mention of this on the product page. Still love the plates. So very pretty.

Thank you for your review. We're delighted to hear you're pleased with the look and feel of the Lemon Grove range. The reason they're not classed as dishwasher proof is due to the glaze finish. Research has found it may be prone to reaction from the additional heat, which in time, may affect the appearance of the pattern - and cause brittleness to the melamine.

It was my intention to buy a set of 6 of these items for picnics and barbecues. Thought I had better see whether I liked it before investing in a serving for 6 so bought a single set. I liked the pattern, so tried to peel off the labels but they wouldn’t all peel off so placed them in warm water for a while. As I was removing them I saw the labels on the back saying they were not suitable for the dishwasher. There was no warning in the brochure about this so I have not ordered any more.

We're sorry you were disappointed they can't be cleaned in the dishwasher. We don't recommend using them in the dishwasher as over time this can affect the appearance of the plates. Dishwasher safe items are marked with a letter D in the brochure.
