Burgon & Ball Potato Harvester

Much kinder to potatoes than a garden fork, there’s less chance of damage when digging them up with this harvester. A new interpretation of the traditional potato grate, the head is forged from stainless steel and is designed to dig up, then sift spuds from the soil. The hardwood handle is a good length to use in the ground or in containers and tubs.

We were lucky enough to get an allotment this year and my husband who has never grown potatoes before used this strange tool at the weekend to dig up his first plant. Digging with a fork used to mean at least one potato with a hole in it but not with this. Thought it was a bit of a gimmick when my daughter bought it for us but it works.
Thought this would be ideal but unless you have the strength of popeye to dig down in dry soil using only arm power it just scuffs up the surface. It only works after digging with a traditional fork to loosen the earth first thus defeating the object.

I have raised beds and thought this would be good for digging spuds, it sounded and looked good. Its far too short a handle and the flat bit at the end has spilt alot of spuds. I have stopped using it and have went back to last years method digging with my hands, I will be looking for something better for next year.
