Aah, the kitchen (or bathroom) bin. An absolute necessity, of course, but if you’d rather not handle the lid every time you need to throw something away – or are fed up wrestling to keep your bin’s lid open when you’re scraping plates into it – Eko’s super-hygienic Morandi Smart Sensor Bin automatically opens and closes it for you, so you don’t have to get your hands dirty.

Infrared sensor opens and closes lid automatically

A little sensor panel in the rim senses when something – like your hand, or a plate – is within 20cm directly above it and automatically opens the lid. It then keeps the lid open while it’s still in range, and closes it when it doesn’t sense anything for 5 seconds. It’s like magic! Or, more accurately, science…

On/off switch to keep it open for longer

You shouldn’t have to use it very often, but if you’re going back and forth to the bin and want it to stay open – rather than opening and closing automatically every time and wearing the batteries down – there’s an on/off switch on the underside of the lid, so you can open the lid automatically the first time, then switch the sensor off so it stays open until you’re done.
