Lakeland Clever Portable Washing Up Bowl with Knife Drainer

Product number: 46171

With its range of super-smart features, the Clever Washing Up Bowl certainly lives up to its name, making washing-up a doddle without creating the tidal wave of water that so often results from tipping water out of conventional washing up bowls. The built-in 3-in-1 plug allows you to seal the bowl whilst washing up, and a simple twist of the plug drains water away while straining out any grotty bits for the bin. Generously sized, there’s room inside to wash larger items like pans and serving plates too.

Removable knife drainer

Clever by name and clever by design, this bowl has another trick up its sleeve: a removable drainer that’s ideal for sharp knives and utensils. If you fill your bowl up above the base of the drainer, you can soak sharp knives until you’re ready to wash them without the dare-devil-game of fishing them out of the sink while hoping not to grab the wrong side of a blade. And, if you use less water in the bowl, you can pop sharp things into the drainer as you wash them, so they’ll start to drip dry straight away.

Great for camping

Ideal for lovers of the great outdoors, this deep-sided bowl helps make light work of washing up at camp sites. The removable drainer doubles up as storage for your sponge and washing up liquid, while the large, ergonomic soft touch handles making transporting your dishes to a washing up station far less of a juggling act. For wild camping, the elevated base makes it easy to drain away the water away once you’re done – even when your ‘worktop’ is a field.

"Picture of bowl looks good!"

star star star_border star_border star_border

Wanted to love this becsuse it looks and sounds great. The big card label is glued to the bowl with dollops of very tough gum. I cant pull it off even with the bowl standing in hot water to warm it. Scraping it off has left a mess so the bowl looks rough. Cutlery tray does not drain properly because the open slot is slightly raised in the centre of the tray so it holds about 1/4inch water in it. The bowl does the same, holding water around the edges. The seal comes off the plug section. It's not the great idea it seems like. *Thank you Lakeland for putting this right, great customer service.

"Easy to use,"

Fits into my sink with a bit of space, easy to empty if not over filled just turn the plug but I've had the pink washer fall out when I've being emptying bit's into the sink have to watch this as don't want to lose it down the sink. The rubber handles are strong but a bit lose & can come off if not careful when tipping out water..

"Had to replace"

I bought this some months ago and was initially it was ok. I didn't have the problems with the drain , but my issue was because the handles are inset, the bowl was too shallow (you can only fill to the bottom of the handles - about 10cm). Then, a few weeks ago I looked closely at the handles....the grey inset was stained. I took them out and they were horrible with soap trapped inside. Gross. Even after bleaching they looked stained. I've now bought the Joseph Joseph bowl in the Black Friday sale and this is a vast improvement with no soap traps. Wish I'd spent a little more first time round.

"Good concept, doesn’t keep it looks."

When I first bought this bowl (in store in Brighton, I think) I loved it. The drainer is very useful sitting on my draining board with sponges and the like in it (not it’s purpose, but hey). The plug in the bowl and the rubber handle parts have now stained horribly. The handles have also begun to rot. Why is this. I wash and rinse out the bowl every time I use it. Disappointed after a great beginning.

We're glad you found this useful, but we're sorry it didn't keep its looks as long as we'd expect, we're not sure why this is and we've passed your feedback onto our buying team.

"Nice idea, terribly executed!"

First issue with this bowl was the seal around the plug. It's an o ring which comes off every time you remove the plug (which you have to do occasionally to clean it). Eventually it'll come off altogether, and despite how many times you put it back on it will become looser. This then means that eventually it doesn't form a proper seal, so what you end up with is a useless leaking bowl. The other major issue is the shape and the handle covers which are magnets for grime and filth. Overall you're better off going for the more expensive Joseph Joseph, which at least as an integrated plug seal.
