Why are they that odd shape?
Dating back to 17th century Europe, the original port sippers were called Schnapps Pfeiffen and were traditionally made from ceramic, but the design principles remain the same. The curvy, bellied shape and narrow neck are designed to prevent the port from oxidising when it comes into contact with air, while drinking the port from the bottom of the glass means you experience the fullest possible flavour.
And… how do you drink through them?
You don’t want to show yourself up at posh parties by drinking from the top of the glass – oh, the social shame! If you’re invited to an elegant soirée and are presented with one of these, don’t panic (and absolutely don’t drop it, because they’re as delicate as they look). Instead, channel your inner Sherlock Holmes, perch the bowl between your fingers and sip daintily through the opening at the top of the curvy little ‘pipe’ at the side. Faux pas duly dodged!

These are fantastic, I now have two sets and use them everytime I drink port and you can taste the difference when drinking from these. They are very delicate but I just love them and take really good care when washing them.
I wanted to buy some of these the first year they came out but was unable to as they'd sold out. I managed to buy some via mail order from yourselves two years ago & last year bought a further 4 sets,3 as Christmas presents & the fourth to add to our set sadly missing a sipper due to breakage (yes they are a bit flimsy) but we always use them when drinking really nice port & have used them for spirits & liqueurs too.My Husband & I both like using them.I'm hoping to buy another set this year as a present for a port sipping friend.
Bought these as a Christmas gift for my husband as he loves port and I thought these would be a bit of fun as well as making the port taste great. Yes, they are small but port should be drunk in small glasses, you can always go back for more! They are very delicate so take care when washing them. They make a great conversation piece and my husband was really pleased with them.
One of the stupidest things I've ever bought. Frankly, they make you look really silly...as if you're drinking port out of a mouse's bottom. The delicate nozzle-thingy breaks very easily. Would I buy another set? Of COURSE!
A lot smaller than expected and quite flimsy but they do look nice. I can't see my husband using them (they were a gift for him) but I may.
