It might look like it comes straight out of a 1950s science fiction film, but rest assured – first, flying saucers haven’t landed, and second, there’s sound reasoning behind its ‘space invader’ design! The straight sides and lack of non-stick coating allow the cake to ‘grip’ the inside of the pan and ‘pull’ itself up as it rises; the ring shape helps heat circulate evenly through the bake, so the centre cooks at the same time as the outside; and the legs help with cooling and release.

Light, fluffy, perfectly baked results…made easy

Simply add your fat-less angel cake mix to the ungreased tin and bake, then take it out of the oven. If you’ve ever made an angel food cake before, you’ll know that what comes next is the tricky bit: cooling it without the whole thing collapsing. Here’s how it’s done…immediately turn your cake upside down so the tin is resting on the three little legs – they helps cool air circulate around the cake and allows gravity to create air bubbles inside the cake, while the non-coated surface of the pan helps the cake stays inside the tin while it cools. Let your cake cool completely in the tin before gently easing it out using a knife or spatula.
