Trying to get a professional finish to a tiered celebration bake can be a fiddly, frustrating exercise, but this Rope Borders Silicone Mould from Katy Sue Designs offers a welcome solution – cheat! Helping you hide all those perennial layer cake problems – like icing that doesn’t quite reach the bottom of a layer and uneven bits round the edges of cake boards – it turns out three differently sized ‘ropes’ of icing, perfect for placing round the bottom of each tier.
Ideal for modelling paste, chocolate and more
Designed for use with firm fondant, modelling paste and marzipan, this silicone mould is an incredibly easy way to achieve a professional look with very little effort and no specialist skills. Just dust the mould lightly with cornflour before you begin, then push your paste into place, being careful not to overfill the mould. Once you’ve scraped away any excess, press on the back of the mould and flex to gently release your rope.
Releases easily for perfectly preserved detail
Super-flexible and non-stick, the mould will release your border easily once it’s set, giving you wonderful definition with all the delicate twist detail intact.
Go hot and cold
Because it’s made from heat-resistant silicone, this mould can also be used with melted chocolate, Candy Buttons, toffee or sugar – just wait for them to set hard before turning them out.
