Wendy's Help & Advice

“Mandolines have very sharp blades so should be handled carefully. Here at Lakeland we only sell mandolines with a slider guard to hold the food in place whilst slicing and to ensure that fingers do not come into contact with the blades.

The secret for success is to let the mandoline do the work for you - move the slider up and down without applying pressure and in no time at all you will have sliced or shredded produce - applying pressure can cause your food to jam in the blade. We recommend you always use the clip on the food holder.

With the correct technique, your mandoline will soon become an essential piece of kitchenware. Click on the video demonstration (above) to see one in action.”

"Very good product"

I have been using my Mandoline for a couple of years now and have got the "hang" of it now! I now rarely use the sliding food holder getting better results just running the produce up and down the blade. Once it gets to close for comfort, I use the plastic handle to do the last bits. I agree with others who say rinse immediately as this works very well. Thin sliced onions and julienne cucumber live in small airtight boxes in the fridge and even the kids are adding some green stuff to their sandwiches now! Glad I got it

"Brilliant"

Before buying this mandoline I read the reviews and was put off by the negatives. It looked to be just what I wanted and after checking that it could be returned I took the plunge and bought one. It is fabulous! Thinly sliced pineapple for dessert, jullienned carrots and sliced onions for the stirfry, thinly sliced parsnips, carrots and sweet potato for crisps. All on the first day and no sliced fingers. You do need to wash it straight after use if you want an easy time and it does stain with carrots and sweet potato, but so what - it slices!!I think it is great!

"Speedy"

I love this machine!! Salads and coleslaw are so easy to prepare, and as long as you follow instructions your fingers are totally safe! Only thing I would say is ensure you wash up straight away, as any dried on bits are hard to remove from blade without taking slices out of your fingers - if you have to leave it - give it a swift rinse under the tap- will prevent tears later!

"Not for the faint hearted"

I agree that the safety guard only really works with things that fit perfectly inside it, however it is still a lot faster and more effective than using a knife. My husband uses it more than I do as he is able to get super fine cut onions for his homemade burgers, made in the Lakeland burger maker, another fantastic time saving gadget.

"5-Star Salads!"

We eat a lot of salads and i love to create different textures for different ingredients and this mandoline is my main resource for beautiful results. It has a very sharp blade making it faster and safer to use (so you don't need to put much pressure and have more control). I make very long strips of carrots and daikon with the julienne blade and very thin rings of apple that always receives compliments by bemused guests! But the winner is transparent-thin slices of pineapple (this way the middle part of pineapple is eatable too and don't go to waste) that melts in the mouth! It is however an item for people like me, who invests effort in preparation. I have given 4 stars because i find the safety attachment useless to most different types of vegetables (it only works well if the vegetable is of similar size of that ring) and in order to make the most of the mandoline and the vegetables i cut things mainly without the attachments, stopping before the blades are too near my fingers and then continuing by using the white pusher on the top of the vegetable to be on the safe side. Its a shame this item has received so many bad reviews... I used many mandolines before and i feel this one is the best i've had!
