Wendy's Help & Advice

“Mandolines have very sharp blades so should be handled carefully. Here at Lakeland we only sell mandolines with a slider guard to hold the food in place whilst slicing and to ensure that fingers do not come into contact with the blades.

The secret for success is to let the mandoline do the work for you - move the slider up and down without applying pressure and in no time at all you will have sliced or shredded produce - applying pressure can cause your food to jam in the blade. We recommend you always use the clip on the food holder.

With the correct technique, your mandoline will soon become an essential piece of kitchenware. Click on the video demonstration (above) to see one in action.”

"Veg slicer"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

Very disappointed. Useless for older people or if one has arthritis in the hands. Sorry, can't use it at all.

"Too scared to use it now"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I bought this mandolin more than a year ago (perhaps nearly two). I did read the reviews, was a bit wobbly, but because of Lakeland's guarantee, I bought it. I was so excited when I got it. I was very careful to follow the instruction, but I found any veg doesn't slide by itself without me putting pressure on it (that's because the veg got stuck on the blade). Results were great though when fingers are not sliced. I have used it about five times, three times involved sliced finger. Now it's been unused for more than year as every time I want to use it, I'm too scared. Can I still return it?

"Useless piece of kitchen equipment"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

Wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this item. The carriage that is supposed to hold the food is absolutely useless, due to it not holding the food securely. I have even been to the Zyliss site to see if they have any suggestions other than throw it in the bin. I did notice the carriage on the one they have now produced looks more efficient than the one one what you are selling at Lakeland. Yours can be a lethal piece of kitchen wear not very safe to use. Come on Lakeland I have purchased lots of items from you over the years and this does not even warrant 1 star.

"Dangerous"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

This review is for an older version of this product

This product is dangerous. Had a lovely wooden mandoline for years, finally decided to treat myself to the Zyliss Mandoline. Used yesterday for the first time and ended up in hospital - five stitches. It is unstable, poor slicing (with the exception of my thumb), judders, This product is only fit for the bin. A new traditional wooden one for me. Not the sort of quality I would expect from Zyliss, having purchased the ice cream scope and garlic press neither of which can be beaten. Only 1 star because there is not the option of no stars

"Positively Dangerous!"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

This wouldn't julienne carrot, sweet potato or even courgette properly - only seemed to score it 3/4 way through. Didn't know what would happen if I pressed the veg too much. How this product got a 'Red Dot' award I do not know, and equally, as 34 out of 41 reviews are very poor, I don't know why Lakeland are still selling it. I expect much better from a company such as Lakeland - not sure that this could have been properly tested before being put on sale. Overall disgusted!
