With a different surface on each side of its steel head, OXO Good Grips’ Meat Tenderiser is an invaluable utensil for any keen cook – especially if you and your family enjoy tender stews, casseroles and classic European dishes such as schnitzel.

Textured surface for tenderising tougher cuts

With pyramidal ‘teeth’ at one end, this hefty chef’s hammer is great for tenderising tough cuts of meat – especially before marinating – ideal for meats heading for the barbecue grill and for times when you might not have as long as you’d like for cooking a dish low and slow.

Smooth surface for flattening fillets

The smooth side of the head is for flattening out fillets of meat to make rissoles or schnitzel. Just cover the piece of meat with a piece of baking parchment, cling film or similar and hammer the fillet until it’s thin enough to suit your recipe.

And, of course, it’s ideal for breaking up biscuits for desserts like cheesecake too – but we recommend you wrap them in a clean cloth first to stop the crumbs flying all over the kitchen.

Soft, non-slip grip

The last thing you want to happen is for it to fly out of your hand while you’re hammering away and dent your prized kitchen kit or countertop, so soft, non-slip grips help you keep a firm hold on it, even if your hands are a bit damp.
