Prue’s World 20cm Karahi Cooking Dish with Serving Basket

Product number: 26483

Traditionally looking a bit like a wok but with a flat base and two handles for carrying it to the table, a karahi is a circular cooking pot often used for simmering the Indian stews and curries that share its name. Made from durable carbon steel for efficient heat distribution and featuring two layers of Quantum 2 non-stick for easy release, this Prue’s World Karahi Dish comes with its own red and white poly-cotton rope basket to sit the hot dish in for serving at the table – which not only looks fab, but also protects your dining table from scorching. Even better, the dish can go into the dishwasher for easy cleaning when the food has been devoured and the trivet/basket can be washed at 30°C.

About our Prue’s World range

We tell anyone who’ll listen – we love to cook and can think of nothing better than finding creative, authentic kitchen tools that make cooking a joyful experience. So when Prue Leith approached us to collaborate on an exciting new range inspired by her trips around the world, we thought all of our birthdays had come at once!

Prue has been everywhere. She’s had an amazing life of cookery and adventure, and her culinary voyages have been a huge influence in this range’s creation. As well as being a passionate chef, founder of Leiths School of Food and Wine, TV personality, restaurateur and writer, she’s a globetrotter with a love of foods from afar, and the cookware in her own kitchen has been cherry-picked from her trips around the world.

A self-confessed Lakeland fan, Prue invited us into her home and we were like children in a sweet shop, exploring her vast, eclectic cookware kit for inspiration. Her wonderful stories behind each piece, as well as Prue’s exacting guidance, has resulted in a range that’s as interesting and colourful as Prue herself.

Prue says “I want everyone to experience the pleasure and satisfaction of producing food to share with others.” Prue tested every item herself to ensure everything worked as it should, and if something wasn’t quite right, she helped us make it perfect.

Made from attractive crushed bamboo zebra wood, ceramics and durable metals, everything in Prue’s global cookware collection is practical enough for everyday use, and will work brilliantly for all of your own culinary adventures. Accented with a pop of vibrant red, they make fabulous gifts for creative cooks, too.

You’ll find Prue’s tasty Chicken Karahi recipe on our blog.

"Excellent mini stir fry pan"

star star star star star

I am really pleased with this pan as it is good size for 2 mature people and light enough to stir fry and serve. Sounds daft as it is for Indian hob to table recipes but I find it absolutely super for this use aswell! Yes the handles are metal and conduct heat but I have found the Lakeland individual pair of silicone oven grips excellent for this job. The serving basket also doubles as a nan, lavash or bread basket. Will always view Prue Leith products to see what is new. Thank you all for producing and stocking this item.

"Useful but take care"

star star star star star_border

I like this karahi and have used it almost everyday for everything from making stir-fry to deep frying. The size is good and the pan is nice and deep. The problem is that the handles get really hot as they are made of metal. In Prue's video too, we can see that she was trying to use a towel to hold the pan handles. I hope in future designs we can get the same karahi but with wooden handles.

"Handles get too hot"

The dish itself is excellent and works well, however the handles get too hot to touch during cooking! It makes the pan almost unusable

It's safest to use oven gloves - oven mitts such as the 'heat shield' gloves and gauntlets we currently sell are a great idea.

"Disappointed"

I love the size and shape of this pan and the basket. However, even after taking care to clean it all food now sticks and burns on the bottom as if the non stick coating has even warn or not robust enough

We’re very sorry to hear about the non stick and will email shortly to sort a refund for you

"Disappointing"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I bought this a couple of months ago, I live on my own so this was an ideal size. I followed the instructions with regards to washing up etc. And used non stick tools, what a waste of time. The non stick coating just peeled off. I have been a Lakeland customer for over 30 years and I think £20 for 2 or 3 uses is not value, especially for me as a pensioner. I am surprised Lakeland putting their name to such a poor product. Very disappointed.
