"Too thin to work"

I bought this with great hopes that I would no longer worry about burning my hand when cleaning my iron using the hot iron cleaner. However, the mitt is too thin (significantly less thick than an oven glove) and gave almost no protection. Doubling it up like a cloth made it adequately protective but why not then just use a normal cloth?
