The crystals start to colour as you use it and eventually it loses its water softening properties. We now only put filtered water in our water softener and six months after buying this, its still going strong!

Firstly the bottle is very small and the softened water did nothing on the scale that was already there. In fact after 6 mixes, the crystals seemed to have little effect on tap water added.
