Lace-Look Silicone Icing Mat - Rectangular

After looking at various more expensive lace mats online I saw this in my local store and when I saw the price decided to buy it and give it a go. Works great, easy to use if you follow the instructions. I put in the oven to dry it and it worked fine. Hope that Lakeland bring out more designs!

Wow. I love making cakes and was hoping this would add a little something extra. It is fab. First attempt went a little wobbly and I did bake it in the oven. Did not like this result. Second attempt I decided to let air dry overnight and the results were superb. I have even added colour to make some fab lace pieces to add to contrast coloured cakes. I have also added a second layer over the whole mat (very thin layer) of a contrast lace icing and have created some amazing two tone coloured edible lace. Points to add. Use room temp water. Whisk on high for minimum of 2 minutes. Enjoy :)

I was so surprised at how easy it was to achieve beautiful results. As ever, Lakeland have produced high quality items, at really reasonable prices. My tips for anyone buying these would be to be patient - don't try to peel the lace off before it's properly dry (as I did!!!). I didn't use the oven, but left out to air dry - but eventually left it overnight, which was much better. Also, the 'recipe' amount makes up quite a lot - enough for 2 x large plus 2 x small moulds. I hope Lakeland add to this range, as it's such a great new way of making edible decorations.

I was so pleased with the results I got from this cake lace mat. I used it to decorate a birthday cake and everyone was baffled as to how I'd made it from icing. They thought it was real lace! I found the process quite intricate but I followed the instructions to the letter and it worked perfectly first time. Admittedly, I don't have the official spatula and used my own flexible spatula, but so long as you really work the mixture into every crack of the mould, you'll get a good pattern at the end. I baked my lace in the oven which worked well. Please get more patterns Lakeland!

I bought the silicone lace mats and the Magic Icing Powder because I was looking for a cheaper alternative to other products on the market. I found the mats simple to use and was delighted with the end result. After a bit of experimenting, I found that it was best to put the moulds into the oven rather than depend on the heat and humidity in my draughty house. My only complaint is that the lace does not remain flexible for very long. I may try these mats with another icing product which claims to be flexible for longer. For basic lace mats, however, these are by far the best value.
